Just announced today! Release in October. What are you guys hoping for?

My biggest fear is that they over-simplify it. They have been trending that direction, and it scares me!

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/289070/

As for new features, I hope the planet is much more dynamic.

That is a unanimous complaint I'm seeing online. And I agree with it.

i read that they are going to make terrain based planning decisions more complex, which sounds interesting. this has been my favorite tbs franchise ever so i will buy it and am hopeful. i didn't care for the space based version, but i love civ5 so, planning on some long lost nights playing when it comes out.

Yeah, i agree. Having your tech and terrain impact your civilization should make the playthroughs more unique.

What I'm really hoping for is something other than a tech tree. It's kinda frustrating when you're playing as a civ in the middle of a large continent yet are still forced to research naval techs. It'd be cool if the tech advances were less linear so that way there'd be more variety. I know that's a lot to ask.

I've been playing since Civ I, so i'll definitely be getting this.

Yep - Darth noted it. If you are in the middle of a continent, the game doesn't force you to go naval (supposedly)

Still really don't care for the art style, but it looks better in motion

I read it as the game basically forcing you to NOT go naval (because it would be a lot slower to research than land techs). Which makes sense. I look forward to my steppe based civ's horse warriors roaring out of the plains and invading the soft coastline dwellers.

The district concept looks interesting - I'm wondering how that will interplay with tile production.

I also wonder how requiring a tile for a wonder will play out in terms of tile resources. Requiring a tile for each wonder will also limit the number of wonders a city can have. Victory with a tall empire might end up being a little tougher, and a OCC will be very challenging.

I'm a guy who likes to horde wonders. I get great enjoyment in having one or two cities loaded with wonders.... so I'm kind of worried about that.

I sort of do that too.

I'm thinking the benefits for specialized cities are going to be even more outsized than they are now, so you'll have to really plan ahead and not put an extra cultural wonder in your science city just because you have the spare output capacity at the moment and you can. Now you'll have to save that tile space for a future science wonder when one comes available.

What I would really like is even more of a specialized city bonus, and not just on a "science city" or "production city" or "cultural city," basis (but some of that too). It would be cool if you could build multiple science campuses, with multiple libraries, universities, etc in one city - and for their science production to be multiplicative rather than additive (like it is in the real world).

It would also be great if you could have a "agricultural" city, where the number of farms plays a multiplicative role in food production too - and a way to export the lion's share of the food to your other cities. It'd be really sweet if industrialization meant that you no longer needed a citizen to work a farm tile, and you could, say, send that citizen plus the food he was previously producing to your capital city to be a factory worker.

I've played some games like that, but the specialization then becomes extreme and the cities become less interesting (to me at least).

Midnight EST! You can get it at 10pm MST.

I've bought it, but I'm kind of worried. I see the hype machine rolling, but the reports on the AI say that it is still ****, and I'm sill not sure on the whole board-game gameplay of it all.

Will find out soon I suppose

The reviews on the AI I've read have been cautiously optimistic. Best one essentially said the developers realized that it would be impossible to create an AI that plays like a competent human, so they quit trying, instead they've focused on developing an AI that is fun /interesting/ challenging to play against.

The primary improvement is that the AI is no longer 100% predictable, they'll do things that surprise you, but frequently you'll find out later that there was an actual reason they did those things and that reason isn't "the random number generator came up with a number that is perfectly divisible by 113."

Fingers crossed... I just hope this has the same Civ5 feeling (bad AI and all) and not the boring Civ: Beyond Earth feeling

I will buy it, play it and spend way too much time on it just like Civs 1-5.
