Oh, Utah.

Utah, Utah, Utah.

I’m not sure Devontae Booker is the most valuable player in the conference. Oregon was lost without Vernon Adams, Washington State would be in dire shape without Luke Falk, and Stanford without Kevin Hogan? Forget it.

But I am quite certain that Booker is the most valuable non-quarterback in the league.

In fact, the top-10 list of non-QB MVPs looks something like this:

1. Booker
2. Booker
3. Booker
4. McCaffrey
5. Booker
6. Booker
7. JuJu
8. Booker
9. Buckner
10. Booker

Are the Utes done with Booker out for the remainder of the regular season (knee surgery)?

If they aren’t done this week (home vs. UCLA), then they will be done Dec. 5. No way they can beat Stanford or Oregon (with Adams) in the conference title game. No way.

(Travis Wilson isn’t good enough. Even if he were, they don’t have enough playmakers.)

In fact …

If the goal is to produce a playoff team, then Stanford is the best bet.

And if Stanford is the best bet, then wouldn’t the conference be better served by USC winning the South?

A Cardinal win over surging USC might carry more weight with the committee than a Cardinal victory over Booker-less Utah.

Last week: 4-2
Season: 36-30-3
Five-star special: 6-5

All picks against the spread.
Lines taken from vegasinsider.com (opening lines used).

USC (plus-4) at OREGON: Due to tripling of the original line (1.5), we’ll use the updated number. As well as the Ducks are playing, I don’t have a feel for this one either way — except for the total of 70.5: Love the over. Pick: Oregon.

WASHINGTON (minus-16) at OREGON STATE: Tough to pass on the home team and 16 points against an offensively-challenged visitor. Except when that huge home dog is OSU. Pick: Washington.

COLORADO (plus-15.5) at WASHINGTON STATE: Trap game for the Cougars following the last-second win at UCLA and with the Apple Cup next week. Pick: Colorado.

ARIZONA (plus-6) at ARIZONA STATE: Too many points for a rivalry game in which neither team is any good. Pick: Arizona.

CAL (plus-12.5) at STANFORD: Recent series history points to a comfortable Stanford victory, even accounting for the Bears’ improvement this season. It won’t be in doubt with one minute left, but maybe with 10 minutes left. Pick: Cal.

UCLA (plus-2.5) at UTAH: Less faith in the Bruins than in the Booker-less Utes. And that’s saying something. Pick: Utah.

Straight-up winners: Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Arizona State, Stanford and Utah.

Five-star special: Washington. Let’s see … 16-point line … the Beavers won’t score more than 10 … UW only needs to get to 27 … Sold!
