I mentioned in Perkins thread that my cousin plays at BHS, who played both East and Regis this year. I got a chance to talk to him about his thoughts on the two, he spent at least a little time guarding both in those games too (you don't guard those guys with just one guy).

He thought Collier was the better all around player, tougher to guard, better at creating his own shot and finding the open teammate. The open teammate thing could have been a factor of East having more overall talent though. He also thought Collier was more invested on the defensive end.

He thought Perkins was the better pure shooter, especially on the catch and shoot. Their scouting on Perkins was to make him put it on the floor, and make him go left. Against Collier they would rather have him shoot the jumper.

Both guys scored in the mid 20s in the game against BHS, they're both very good players. BHS almost upset Regis, got crushed by East early in the season, but East has more overall talent.

So what I think you're saying is that there couldn't be a more perfect backcourt duo.

    Collier vs Perkins

I only got to see each play once this year, both in the Elite 8 games.

Perkins scored 29 or 30, but I still wasn't overly impressed. He had a lot of turnovers and a lot of bad shots, but that is going to happen with that team being so young and almost every possession went through him. I think he played 30 of 32 minutes. He's still obviously a very good player, has great size and strength, but I honestly expected him to be better.

Collier has some foul trouble and wasn't very aggressive offensively that game so I didn't get to really see what he's capable of. He is very thin, but is very good at creating from anywhere on the court.

I will definitely catch more games next year. I would love to have either and abs is right, we will not see both in a CU uniform. I think both are great players, I'd give the edge to Collier, but I don't see how either is a top 100 player nationally.

I don't want that short of a backcourt. Maybe I've been spoiled by all the quality 6'5 6'6 guys we've had the last few years.

It has been said by many people many times. No chance at both. One or none.

Should the name of this thread now be changed to: Perkins v. Collier v. Paige ?

    Tad seems to think so!

Isn't Paige looked at as more of a shooting guard?

I was talking with two of my buddies that have been playing with and against both of these guys since middle school at camps and on AAU teams and they said that if they played one on one Perkins would win handily but Dom elevates the level of his team more than Perkins. They also said that while Perkins has a higher ceiling offensively he is also prone to becoming a turn over machine at times. Both said they'd much rather have Dom playing point on their team.

    Interesting. Thanks for posting.

The type of rep Dom has can really help in recruiting. Mayor Dinwiddie had a similar rep from HS & AAU. Recruits wanted to play with him.

I'm not trying to make any point here, but I just wanted to point out that Perkins is killing it as a true frosh for a really, really good Gonzaga team. He's playing over 20 minutes a game, shooting 53% as a PG, 40% from three, with an ATO ratio of 2.5-1.

I'm also not trying to make any point here, just wanted to point out that playing 3 cupcakes certainly helps. Dom's stat would look pretty good too if he plays in first 2 games, IMO.

True, but there was no question that Perkins was going to excel at Gonzaga. He has a really well developed offensive game for a young guy and will kick ass under Gonzaga'z coaching staff. He was rated 40 slots higher than Dom in the "Top 150".

I know a lot of people agree that Perkins has a higher ceiling offensively. I'm still in "wait and see" mode on how he could elevate his team. Anyway, we are fortunate to get either one of them.

Nothing. I wasn't comparing the two or calling it a recruiting failure or anything else. I was simply pointing out that Perkins was playing extremely well for a very good Gonzaga team. Arvidas Sabonis' son is playing even better. No hidden agenda there either.

I don't care. I'm telling the truth. Someone mentioned to me how well the younger Sabonis was playing so I looked at Gonzaga's stats and saw Perkins' name. I honestly didn't even remember he was playing for them.

Season has pretty much gone exactly like I expected it to so far. A bit extreme (wasn't expecting as big of a win vs Auburn or as big of a loss vs Wyoming), but as expected. Until something truly bizarre happens, I'm good.
