Coached by former buff QB Mike Moschetti and co-coach Ollie Lynch, La Mirada HS wins first CIF championship since 1992. (CIF = California Interscholastic Federation.)

La Mirada was losing 14-21 at the half, but scored 14 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter, and an additional 21 points in the 4th to win the game. Final score: 49-27 over Garden Grove.

That's great... I wonder if he's interested in college coaching?

Not sure how long he was there, but Moschetti coached JC at Mt. Sac State.
He was offensive coordinator there in 2006, maybe longer.

Found one reference that he may have coached at ASC (Adams State in CO?) ... around 2005 ...

but this is also cool. La Mirada has only one the championship once before.
Guess who the QB was when they won it in 1992?

Yeah...he was coaching at Mt. Sac and then was offered to go to Pueblo as OC....then he was approached to come back to LMHS and he couldn't turn it down...he loves being back here with his family/friends and he loves working with high school kids.

He also got married to his high school sweetheart last June.

We are all really proud to see his hard work pay off...but he owes a lot to CU...he basically took that offense he knew and applied it at LM. Not many high school teams have seen that type of a college offense.

I love that he came back to his old high school and coached them to the championship. Gateway, do you get to watch the HS games there?

We didn't make the games this year....but we were able to follow tweets online from reporters at the game so we knew what was going on through out last night. Also talked to Mike's dad this morning and he said it was a great venue...the Orange Coast College stadium was recently re-modeled and it was like a mini coliseum with a dropped field, etc....it was full/packed and rockin'! Joe said it was very intense and then they were able to relax as it was obvious GG was not coming back.

Did you see the article from the Press Telegram about Mike's mentor/former coach Mele? That's also cool....it's all about tradition for Mike and he owes a lot to Coach Mele...he was the one that got him in touch with Mt. Sac so that he could go back to footbal which then lead to CU. It's just a great story.

We knew the QB was the entire offense for GG and he got taken out early (with fractured ribs....Mike knows about that too!) and the game totally turned around at that point.

P.S. FYI... Mike's QB Poncedeleon has signed a LOI with Arizona to play baseball but maybe he will be drafted like Mike was. That would be interesting too.

What's the deal with Garden Grove's QB, Sean Young?

He's not in any databases. Is he not a college prospect?

I have no clue....maybe he's classified as an "athlete" like Poncedelon. I don't follow recruiting at all....not my thing.

Plus now he has to hope his ribs heal.

No, I mean he (Sean Young) doesn't exist in Rivals or Scout as a recruit in any position for football. Maybe he isn' t interested in playing in college, or has a 2nd sport?

Congratulations to Mike and the team. The reward is well-deserved. It makes me wonder if Mike may make it back to Colorado someday?

As he continues to develop as a coach and when he's ready, let's hope he does come back to CU and helps contritbute to the lore of and fame of what use to be Colorado Football and we all hope will return again.
