IMO, the head coach is only part of the equation. The coordinators are just as important. That's probably a statemetn of the obvious but i've not seen it discussed much here.

Mack at Texas has seen his fortunes rise and fall with our defensive coordinators.

Same goes for PC at USC. With Chow he was lighting it up. Hasn’t been quite the same since.

The next coach needs to be able to find and hire the best coordinators he can get.

Agreed, I think this was one of Hawk's major downfalls. The mess on offense year to year, compounded by the woefully inconsistent defense, is on Collins and Kiseau/Helfrich. I think the next guy needs to have the ability to bring in some good assistants. No more OCs that try implementing different offenses every offseason. No more DCs that defend their gameplans after a 57-0 loss.

My whole perspective on this is that the head coach is really a CEO. You can be great with the actual coaching work but if you can’t handle all of the other stuff (hiring coordinators, recruiting, public relations, administration, etc.) then you are destined to fail. I think that’s a massive hurdle for guys, like Hawk, who have had success coaching on a smaller stage then move to a big-time program in a big-time conference. It’s similar to situations you would find in the business world. Some guys have great success when they can control everything themselves yet flounder when they’re in a position where they have to manage, delegate, strategize, look at the big picture, etc. That’s just how I see it.

Are you in love with the pistol, the OC or the rushing numbers they are producing? :smile2:

Just wondering, all are very valid reasons to want him at CU. Honestly, I don't know much about him besides the massive numbers and potential for 3 1,000 yd rushers in one offense!!!

All of the above. There is a reason the pistol is used by roughly half the NCAA now...

you should see me play NCAA... I use the pistol almost exclusively when I mean to run the ball
