Cross Country now a dangerous sport?

the first kid ever to go in to concussion protocol in cross-country

Funny you mention that. I was talking to Charlotte Jones Anderson, EVP for the Dallas Cowboys, on the subject of concussions and the Will Smith movie.

She indicated that concussions aren't just an NFL thing. Also soccer. Interestingly, even marathon runners are prone to concussions due to the constant jarring that running puts on the brain. Apparently repetitive low impact sloshing of the noggin can have similar consequences as big hits. I couldn't tell how much this is an NFL smokescreen or backed by true science. But I do admit that every serious marathon runner I've ever met is a little off in the head.

Depending on the course, a lot more road running finds it way into courses now so they're not as common, some golf courses and parks where courses are set also poo-poo on wearing spikes.
I wore 5/8 inch spikes on the very rare occasion we encountered wet courses back in the 80's. They were awesome until I had to cross a golf cart path. Way back in the day, the default was either 1/8 or 1/4 inch spikes and it was mainly personal preference. I can't speak to today as there has been a significant evolution in plastic where you can no longer where metal spikes on a golf course - maybe CC is the same - I do not know.
