Dear Buffs Fans,
We couldn’t be more proud of this team. From where we started in January of 2012 to the Sweet 16 in November of 2013…has been incredible! The match against BYU was everything you would expect of a 2nd Round NCAA tourney match. Emily and Carly scored early goals to give us a dream start against #19 BYU. We knew BYU would throw everything at us in the 2nd half and they did. Although we gave a up a goal with 30 minutes remaining, we never let down and deservedly finished with the victory.
Up next was Florida State and their #1 seeding. They turned out to be everything we expected and more. They hit the post 30 seconds in and in the first 15 minutes we were under siege and down 3-0. The Buffs could have closed up shop and been content with getting this far, but they didn’t. The coaching staff was pleased with how we continued to battle and play with passion. The Seminoles were just too much for us on the day, and they will be a favorite to win the national championship this year.
To recap the season, we reached the Sweet 16 for the 2nd time in program history (2006) and reached the NCAA tournament for the 1st time since 2008. This group of young ladies carried themselves with class on and off the field and represented the University of Colorado with pride. We are excited for next year and are looking forward to getting the team back together on January 14th in preparation for the 2014 season.
Finally, a special thanks from me for our four seniors that arrived in August of 2010. Annie Brunner, Lizzy Herzl, Hayley Hughes and Anne Stuller have been through ups and downs as Buffs. I couldn’t be happier that they had such great senior seasons! They deserve it and have set the standard for future Buff squads. Thanks for everyone’s support this year and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2014. GO BUFFS!
