since i know that rammies are lurking here, i figured to say a few words about the series.

y'all rams don't make any sense in all the crap you are talking. this afternoon, you were so certain that cu was just "scared" of you. i think tonight the buffs showed how much they are shaking in their boots.

the series is a good thing. the kids like it. i want to see it continued. could bohn have added up to six before friday? sure. however, he needed to make a decision about how to get six out of 09, and it was coming down to our matchup. one thing i understand clearly is having to refund a half a million dollars and risk losing tenants in the luxury suites that recently became fully occupied. those suites pull in mad cash.

from my point of view, y'all don't get to talk crap about being big babies, because your leadership threw a mighty fine fit, too, right before they shot themselves in the foot. however, the game is going to be in hughes in 2010. groovy to me. the buffs get their payoff, anyway. and call me crazy, but i am motivated to acquire that ticket. three pack it, fine. i will bet we take the high road and do not do the same thing. i will also be willing to bet that three pack or not, there will be a significant number of buff fans in your house that night - no matter what the final number is that the fire chief allows.

beyond that, i would like to see it return to invesco as often as possible. we are not scared. we are your superbowl, and i am down with that. if you bring your A game, that will only keep the buffs on their toes and help them start the season with speed.

bring it. i am for sure not backing away from it, i encourage it. or are YOU scared?

**** invesco. I used to like playing the game there, but now that CSU is in the dumps, they don't even fill up the stadium at all. Also, **** THAT PLACE AND ITS PARKING. I arrived 3 hours early and they couldn't get us to a ****ing parking spot for 1.5 hours. Awful pre game experience.

Also, I like hearing the goddamn band and prefer Folsom as a stadium for college ball in every single possible way.

As lame as it is playing CSU (boring game I thought), if they want to continue the series, let them play their game at Invesco and keep our games at Folsom...

you have a certain point in that if the rams cannot do their part of the bargain and fill up the stadium, then it would be worthless.

which brings to mind ram smack talk from earlier: they did not like the 55-45 split in our favor of revenue sharing. if they don't like it, they can get their ass in the stand. the tv cameras were facing right towards their sparsely populated side of the stadium and it sucked.

I've gone back and forth with this, but I think its probably best for the game to be played in Invesco after 2010.

Still, I don't hold it against CSU going for the option to have the game in Hughes in 2010. After 09, we would have played 3 times in Boulder in the last 5 years, I think its only fair that CSU get a game in Hughes.. I don't care about the money angle.. Money shouldn't be always the number one option..

I like for CU to scale back their schedule to the CSU series, one game with a BCS opponent and 2 directional(Mac, SunBelt, WAC, Div1AA) home games every year..

yeah, there is no hard feelings for them moving it to hughes. i am going, and they had better get used to the fact that the buff nation will be taking over.

i cannot argue with a whole lot of what you say.

Tonight was my first CU/CSU game in Invesco. While I enjoyed the experience, I would much rather play them in Folsom for CU home games. It just doesn't make sense to me to have a "home game" with half the stadium wearing the other team's colors. If it works for them, so be it. The Buffs should play their home games at home, imo.

Can't argue with the outcome though!

I've also seen a few posts by the rammies, lurking over at lambnation, that they need to focus on building towards the CU-CSU game in 2010. Umm, shouldn't you focus on building towards competing in your conference first. I know that we are all they really care about, but if they want to sustain the program they need to think big picture.

Speaking of 2010, the talent will be awesome, with Cody starting his fourth year and Scott and Speedy as juniors among the rest of the talented depth by then...I'll take the Buffs easy.

LB my prediction on that game? Is quite inconsequential the amount of Damage done between rival fans and to the city itself is the true story. It will not be pretty and in end that game there is going to lead to many arrests. Fort Collins win or lose will financially take the hit for this game and any sense of legacy will be dead. The hate level is truly deep and it will end ugly and unlike Ramnation this place will be balanced and accountable on the after math of that night.

OH one other point I garnered off the Lammie board. Is that we are a BCS school who feeds at a higher trough. Guess the **** what ? That is not changing so stfu on that or step up farm cow humpers and become a BCS school! Oh that's right your small time and can't reach that point like such epi-centers as Boise ****in Idaho. Your alumni is front running ****s and supports your school like ****. Good I beg some one from here to post this on Lamnation the responses would be A. You stay classy B. Corrupt School or 3 . Flag waving boy.

Simply Put the hate I have for the Ram's ? Comes directly from there supporters who post on there board. I admit i read there board and its all for the comedy factor and to view "ellis" the man who's wife to this day still loves me :p

ellis was a ram-lovin poster back over on the ESPN boards in the day. i *believe* he ended up at ramnation. he had a serious inferiority complex with respect to the buffs, and all he could do all day is to try to poke a stick at the buffs. i will predict that he has lead the volley the past several years at rn of pointing out how the buffs TRULY did not win four of the last five games owing to nit pikkity details that have nothing to do with the scoreboard. it is to be noted that i used to call ellis Mr. bergis in honor of the close minded and foul mouthed redneck that a radio station kept pranking about a decade ago. i will bet some mr. bergis soundclips are still floating around. solid gold.

after the espn board was dead, by happenstance, canuck "ran into" the true wife of ellis in the cyberworld. when canuck says that she loves him - it was either love, boredom in marriage, or she is just a real racy lady with what transpired. the details are up to canuck. i do recall that she was aware of his internet behavior and was disenchanted.

with the back story attended to, i want to discuss the meat of something canuck said. "Your alumni is front running ****s and supports your school like ****". i absolutely agree with that. didn't they beg one of their players in the nfl for some green to build a weight room? they did not have one until recent history, is how i understand it. it would seem the rams need every dollar they can scrape.

yet the rams are breaking ground on two athletic buildings with money that is not there, but is "expected" to come from the athletic department. IMO, given these facts, it makes it doubly foolish to play the game in hughes in 2010. i intend to come on out, make no mistake about it. however, for a fan base that ridiculed the fact that colorado took the same approach with our luxury suites and counted the days until they were full, they sure have forgotten that full suites = money that we can ill afford to refund right now. full suites and full house (which the csu game is, and NO, the rams are NOT the only ones to prompt a full house at folsom) equals the same payday as invesco if not more. particularly as we do not pay a fee to play in our own house.

here is a math lesson for rams fans: 39k was your biggest game. it required temporary bleachers, and it is fine to use those. the fire marshall will have a say where the cutoff is. i am going to guess you probably will not get permission for 44k total seats. lets call it 42k. YOU GIVE AWAY 10k seats for free to students. your ticket prices average $35 for high dollar games (actually, it is worse than that, i was being VERY generous - you charge $40 for reserved, $25 for general) and there are season passes for $125 to be had. i fail to see where you think you will be turning this game into a cash cow. a HUGE CHUNK of your take will be providing cu with our guaranteed payoff. are your twelve luxury suites pulling in THAT much money? some of OUR reserved seating goes for $2,300 each season. what our suites go for would probably make you faint. THIS is what you think you have an equal footing to? okay.

based on the number of ram fans who could not fill the televised side of invesco last night with a $55 ticket, much less an $85 ticket, i am going to predict that hughes will be bursting with buff fans in 2010. from every ticket you sell (depending on how many extra bleachers you can put in, but we will go off an estinmate of 29k, as 39k is your top and 10k goes free to students) in hughes, $22 will go to pay cu their contractual fee. do you realize that? divide 650k by 29k if you do not believe me.

cheers. i am all for this.

CSU should get out of this series as soon as they can. Beginning each season with a beat down year after year will not be good for their program. Face it, the only reason this thing had been close the last few years was because of the coaching changes and the recruiting restrictions Betsy put on the program. Betsy is long gone and Hawk will be here for a long time. This is just going to go downhill for the rammies.

I propose the theory that this CSU-CU series is bad for CSU. The Rams will only continue to shoot themselves in the foot should it continue beyond 2010 in it's current RMS incarnation.

At the core of the RMS "rivalry" is the principle that both teams are on equal footing. Conventional wisdom is that this game is good for football in the state of Colorado.

But let's look at how many fans has this RMS turned off. Each time CU wins by a big margin or a small margin, it takes a little more wind out of CSU's sails. The recruiting opportunities slip a little bit more. Kids and supporters walk away from their TV sets or their seats at Invesco with an inferiority complex and a bitter taste in their mouths. Would be supporters learn to associate CSU football with heartbreak and mediocracy.

When CSU loses their opening game, it sets the tone for their entire season. And when CSU plays their in-state rivals and lose this opening game, it's pure de-motivational poison that undermines the value of their program.

For more than two-thirds of the time that these two teams have met over the lifespan of several generations, CU has come out on top. The habitual disappointment of this series creates a negative cycle of less money for CSU, fewer high-caliber players wanting to pick CSU over CU, and fewer fans that bleed green and gold.

If CSU wants to get to a BCS bowl, they need to outperform BYU or UTAH or TCU and run the table. To do this, they really NEED to start scheduling cupcakes for their OOC schedule and start to carry some winning records into their conference play. This strategy would give CSU players something better than a 0-1 start to hang their hats upon. Once CSU gets back to winning their conference, and once CSU increases their odds of beating CU to something more favorable, then they can re-start talks of having the RMS at Invesco.

But so many of CSU's financial eggs sits in the RMS basket. Any financial investor knows the value of diversification. Nobody should put their lives saving on a bet that has a less than 33% chance of return.

CSU needs to establish a football identity separate from CU. They need to learn how to sell out their own stadium 6 times a year. They need to wean themselves from the RMS crack. This is a toxic relationship that won't be getting any more healthy for the foreseeable future.

The first step to recovery is recognizing that the CSU football program has failed to diversify the appeal of their football program beyond their instate rivalry game. They need fans who will cheer for the football team, not against CU. Their success in this recovery can be measured by how full Hughes Stadium is when they play AFA, WYO, BYU or any of their conference rivals. It can be measured by how many tickets they sell to their OOC games in Ft. Collins.

It's CSU's choice. They can pin their self-identity around a few glory years that took place around the turn of the millennium, or they can seek a new direction that will help them rebuild. The sooner CSU recognizes their own unique identity absent CU, the sooner this faux-rivalry can begin anew.

The other option is to move the CSU campus to Denver.....

    Maktub!

Great post! You stole the words right out of my mouth. CSU needs to start focusing on their conference and not on CU. A program that garners attention is one that consistenly builds a foundation to compete for a conference crown, not one that garners a little national exposure on opening weekend, still loses, and then sleep walks through the rest of the season. CSU reminds me of Icarus in greek mythology, they fly to close to the Sun and their wings melt and they come crashing to earth.

Yea, when I was living in CO it seems like the only time you heard someone talk about CSU is when it was in relation to CU. Why aren't you concerned about competing with the BYU's and Utah's and local rivals AF and Wyoming from you own conference?

I never understood the CSU fans' infatuation with playing this game in Denver. CSU wants the game in Denver because they make more money when it's played there, but I would think that their fans would want to play your home games in your own home stadium. Then again, I guess if your stadium sucks and it's 10 miles from campus then I'd probably feel the same way.

The more times CSU plays at Invesco, the emptier Hughes will become. It's really upside down. This dynamic is NOT good for college football in the state of Colorado.

Zactly. When weenies want to play a BCS school, they should get a payoff, not a payout. Maybe we should just schedule a scrimmage with them - it would still be the highlight of their season.
