| DENVER - The University of Colorado tennis team began a four-game road trip with a close 4-3 defeat to Denver. Friday's nighttime match at the Monaco Athletic Club went down to the wire. The Buffs opened strong, easily taking the doubles point with 8-2 victories in the No. 1 and 2 positions, but fought for every game in singles play, as three Buffs were pushed to three sets. "Tonight I was really proud of the quality of play and fight that our team showed," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "This was an exciting college match that literally came down to the last ball played. We definitely had our shots but DU also played a high quality match so congrats to them. We competed hard and this young team is continuing to make strides every time we step out onto the court. Matches that are this close are tough to lose, and you definitely feel them, but ultimately the experience and lessons we gain is only going to help every player on this team. We play CSU on Sunday and expect another great college match. Go black!" The Buffs fall to 2-2 in the spring season, falling by a single point in both losses. Denver improves to 3-2. Colorado leads the all-time series 28-9. Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio continue to prove their strength as a duo, improving to 4-0 in dual play after Friday's 8-2 victory. Julyette Steur and Erin Sanders also glided to success, earning their first win as a pair this spring. In individual play, Manzi Tenorio and Sanders shined once more, helping keep the match tight. Both Buffs have won three straight spring matches. The Buffs continue their road trip against another in-state rival. Colorado travels to Colorado State, who begins dual play on Sunday, Feb. 10. First serve is at 9 a.m. at the Miramont Athletic Club located at 901 Oakridge Drive in Fort Collins. The Buffs hold a 26-0 series lead over the Rams.
