If we bring in a top name HC, I wouldn't be surprised. It'd be a kinda sh**ty thing to do to the fans that have dealt with 5 years of losing, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.
And with only 5 true home games.
I think a good coach can squeeze seven wins out of the schedule.
Really? I'm not seeing it, but then perhaps I've become accustomed to writing off all road trips as an automatic loss.
Not saying it will be easy and it will obviously require some road wins, but I really do think a good coach can squeeze seven wins out of that schedule:
Hawaii-First game under a new head coach on the islands is not exactly a gimme. But an exprienced (albeit with little road success) can help here.
TBA-Likely a 1-AA cupcake. Barring a Montana State disaster, this should be a win.
CSU-They're getting better, but they are still not a very good team. Needs to be a win.
Ohio State-Could be a very ugly loss.
Wazzu-Should be a big win, probably the worst BCS team in the country.
Stanford-The type of game that would an automatic loss under Hawkins, but may be a different story under a new coach. Stanford is likely replacing seven offensive starters after this season, including Andrew Luck.
Washington-DD can probably give better insight here.
Oregon-Loss, but I guess you never know at home.
Arizona State-A program that has stagnated under Erickson. We avoid the early season heat too. Another automatic loss under Hawkins, but it might be a different story under the new coach.
USC-Still ultra talented and can score lots of points, probable loss.
Arizona-Another swing game that should be competitive. The Wildcats graduate their entire OL and eight out of their top 10 OL.
UCLA-Who knows what is going to happen here.
Utah-Another tough road game, but we could be desperate for a win here and you never know with these season-ending games.
It is not going to be easy to get to 7 wins, but it is possible if the Buffs can win some of the swing games (Stanford, U-Dub, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA)
think we could win between 6 and 10 games with a real coach
USC in November. Exactly one year from today. Let's hope the weather is a little colder than it is right now.
I can see quite a few wins if we get a good coach in here.
2011 CU schedule
Sept. 3 — at Hawaii - should be a win, a tough one, but a win. 1-0
Sept. 10 — TBA - cupcake, better be a win. Put it in the new coach's contract that if he loses to a FCS team, he gets fired no buyout required. 2-0
Sept. 17 — Colorado State (Invesco) - Win. CSU sucks. 3-0
Sept. 24 — at Ohio State - loss, hopefully we keep it competitive. 3-1
Oct. 1 — WASHINGTON ST. - win, they're awful. 4-1
Oct. 8 — at Stanford - probable loss if Harbaugh is still there. 4-2
Oct. 15 — at Washington - not really sure, they lose Locker so that should help. 5-2
Oct. 22 — OREGON - loss, maybe we keep them under 50. 5-3
Oct. 29 — at Arizona St. - ASU is pretty bad, probable win. 6-3
Nov. 5 — USC - probable loss, USC still has loads of talent and Barkley is going to be the best QB in the country next year. 6-4
Nov. 12 — ARIZONA - they lose quite a bit, not sure how they recover. 7-4
Nov. 19 — at UCLA - UCLA is pretty bad, hopefully a win. 8-4
Nov. 26 — at Utah - not really sure here. I want to say probable loss, but who knows how Utah handles the rigors of a full season of big time competition. 8-5
8 wins. Some close ones, if we lose them 6 or so wins. I'd say we might have a couple more close ones and could maybe flirt with more than 8 wins, but that seems pretty unlikely. We also probably lose one we shouldn't.
Agreed! We need to play like Montana State or something, Oh wait...... How about Toledo, oh wait..... Eastern Washington?
Maybe some of the big donors/sponsors have signed off on it with the gentlemen's agreement that we get a good coach in next year that's worth a damn
The suite holders want 8 quarters of Northern Colorado Bears.
