Good luck to the Buffs tomorrow night as they try to topple a #1 ranked team at home for the 3rd year in a row. Hope some Allbuffers can make it out to the match. (EDIT- One correction to the 1st sentence. Although undefeated when the Buffs beat them last year, I guess the Washington Huskies were "only" ranked #2 at that time.)

Re USC, they have significantly outperformed expectations this year en route to their current #1 ranking. Historically, them finishing 8-12 in the Pac 12 last year was "horrible", and that carried over to this year's pre-season poll where they started ranked "only" #22 in the country. (Not that bad for most teams, but USC as a traditional power usually expects to be in the top 10 if not top 5 every year.) It was thought that the loss of 2 major contributors to transfer, including the 2013 national freshman of the year, would hurt them this season. However, it seems many of their freshmen have hit college competition "running" and are playing great, and they have two VERY good middle blockers. And, as indicated in the OP, long-time Buff nemesis Samantha Bricio is playing even better than she has in the past, and is considered the front runner right now for national player of the year.
(The Buffs have generally had pretty good success to at least slow down the Pac 12's superstars the last couple years (Krista Vansant, Karsta Lowe, Macey Gardner, etc.), but I can't remember the Buffs ever having much success containing Ms. Bricio, who seems to be able to get quality HARD hitting kill attempts even on challenging sets, and also possesses the scariest, hardest jump serve in the country. It should be a fun challenge for the Buffs this time around to try and minimize the damage her game causes.)

Just noticed it looks like someone is trying to start a CU student volleyball fan group. Hope it leads to some increased fan interest in this exciting sport!

Article added on buffzone (written by Pat Rooney) about tonight's match, starting with memories about the 2 prior times Buff volleyball has defeated the #1 teams in the country- http://www.buffzone.com/buffzonetopstories/ci_28940909/cu-volleyball-buffs-bracing-no-1-usc

It hasn't occurred very often. Just twice, in fact.

And both times, Nicole Edelman was in the gym.

The CU volleyball team's senior setter has fond memories of those two nights when the Buffaloes managed to knock off the nation's No. 1-ranked team. Two years ago she was a key component of an upset against Washington, putting up 46 assists.

The first time the Buffaloes pulled off that feat, Edelman was an impressionable 12-year-old fan, urging CU on from the stands.

"I actually was here in 2006 when CU beat Nebraska when they were No. 1. I was just a little girl," said Edelman, a Boulder native and a graduate of Fairview. "I think it's amazing that we're still able to continue that and have these memories at Coors."

18-22. To CU. Still in system offensively, but just made a couple too many errors this set.

Looks like USC did a better job defensively, esp.digging. Buffs still playing well, with the passing generally keeping them in system.

Stats for this match are about as even as they could possibly be. Wish I'd gone. This is a great battle.
