CUBuffs.com: Buffs Ready For NCAA Cross Country Championships (Saturday, 9:00 AM MT start)

BOULDER — Every year, the Colorado cross country teams begin their season in the hot days of August with a cold November day in mind.
It means three months of training and racing, three months of preparing mentally and physically, three months of building to a peak for the one day they know will define their season.
That day comes Saturday, when the Buffs women and men will line up at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., where — to no one's surprise — they will be among the favorites to win another national title.
The CU women, a unanimous No. 1 in the last two national coaches poll, are favored to win a third national title, adding to the trophies collected by the 2001 and 2004 CU women.
The CU men will enter the race as underdogs, carrying a No. 2 national ranking into the race behind No. 1 Northern Arizona, also a unanimous No. 1 in the latest poll. An upset victory would mean a sixth Colorado men's national title, adding to those won in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2014.
What happens Saturday is anyone's guess. Upsets happen in cross country, as the CU men found out a year ago when they went into the NCAAs as the nation's top-ranked team all season, only to finish second to Syracuse.
...

NUTS AND BOLTS: The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the men's 10K event set to start at 10 a.m.
A live stream of the event will be available at NCAA.com.
A total of 31 teams and 38 individuals not part of those teams will be participating in each race.

Event Homepage - http://www.xctownusa.com/ncaa (Includes links to info for spectators, athletes, etc.)

Live Video - Note- the cubuffs article quoted in the OP appears incorrect. In a sign of "progress", looks like the championships streams won't be free on ncaa.com this year as they have been for many years past. Instead, one needs a premium Flotrack subscription. (For anyone interested, go to http://www.flotrack.org/event/254353-2016-di-ncaa-xc-championships .)
Note- when you click on the link to sign up, looks like those interested can sign up for a 7 day free "Flotrack Pro" trial (assuming of course you haven't done so previously?) and maybe watch at least this year's Championships that way. Mod. started the sign-up process, and it does look like you need to provide credit card info to get the free trial.
Edit- Further note, some in the Letsrun forum reporting their credit cards are getting charged right away, and then Flotrack is being difficult with them when they ask for refunds.

Best of luck to the women's and men's teams on Saturday!!!

(Must say I'm bummed about the video change- I've always enjoyed the fun if slightly amateurish FREE NCAA streams in prior years. And, never watched them myself, but from many on the Letsrun message board, the Flotrack coverages aren't known for being professional "TV broadcast" quality either (in camera work or announcing quality). Oh well, best of luck to them anyways. Hope the NCAA has some clue as to what they're doing long-term with decisions like this change.)

It's Championships Day!!!

Note- The timing link in the OP also includes a list of final team rosters from whom the 7 who actually race today for each gender. For the Buffs, that list is:

Whether picked to run today or not, all the above are obviously (being on a/ the top team like the Buffs) GREAT runners who have helped the team earlier in the season and, for the non-seniors, will be sure to be even stronger contributors of the Buff teams' in future year(s).
(Great sign for the future that there are only 3 seniors included in above, although of course those seniors will be key today. The Buffs also had, IF I remember correctly, a top 3 ranked men's recruiting class this year, and ALL of those 6-7 young men are I believe red shirting. (The 2 freshmen men listed above are red shirts from last year.) Also, I believe the women, who are potentially racing 2 true freshmen today, have another freshman who was ranked in her class who is red shirting this year.)

Similar to Colorado, there's been big changes to the weather the last few days in Terre Haute. I believe it was around 70 degrees plus Wednesday or Thursday when the Buffs arrived there. Then yesterday, it cooled down a lot and there were some downpours. Today looks pretty clear, but I think at most it's supposed to only be around 40 degrees, with a HIGH wind (22 MPH+). At least from a report by a Letsrun moderator at the scene, the course, in spite of yesterday's rain, is largely dry (which has OFTEN been a factor to these championships in prior years).

Women are in their starting boxes (jumping like crazy trying to stay warm)! It's 37 degrees with a 27 wind chill.

The race is off. Looks like the start was smooth. Early on, looks like the Buffs are in a pack in the front 1/3rd of the pack.

Buffs in 51st through 92nd place after 2K and somewhere from 3rd to 5th place as a team. (CU teams almost ALWAYS hang back early to get a feel for the race. Pack is still pretty tight.)

A lead pack has broken out with no Buffs visible. Although a lot of time left, must be a little concerning for those Buffs (like Clark) who might have individual podium/ title aspirations.

Preliminarily, Buffs in 3rd 2/3rds through the race at 4K. Points are still pretty tight, so Buffs still could be in good shape if they have a lot left for the final 2K.

Don't think there were any Buffs near the top 10, so it definitely won't be a dominating score. It may be pretty close.

Buffs top finisher unofficially only 22nd (Jones), although I haven't seen Clark listed yet, so wonder if they missed her scoring. The rest of the team was all coming in by the mid 40's.

Announcers saying it's probably between Oregon (who had 2 in the top 14 or so) and CU.

IF Clark didn't finish, it's probably going to be within a few points one way or the other. IF she was in the 20's or even low to mid 30's, the Buffs should be OK.

Oh oh- unless CU's own twitter forgot about Clark, the Ducks may have pulled a major upset, as Flotrack's VERY preliminary count had them with around 164 points.

NOTE- one thing that isn't factored in yet that could help or hurt the Buffs in this TIGHT finish, these are still RAW numbers which include the finishes of individual runners who ran today. They get excluded when calculating official team totals.

Should be added NCAA official scoring visible to the public appears to have broken online, so it's no help.

By the way, perplexing also that Morley, who with Clark have pretty much always been in the top 4 for the Buffs, also isn't included in the CU tweet above. Maybe they both had bad days and/ or weren't 100% coming in?

Someone in letsrun also just wrote that the Flotrack announcers are totally ignoring Michigan, and that they may very well be the winners. Be interesting to see the final scores.

Edit- with the winning score likely to be relatively high (somewhere in the mid 100's), assume a FEW teams could end up sneaking onto or near the podium.)

Flotrack now saying they're UNOFFICIALLY calculating CU, Oregon and Michigan (in no particular order) within 8 points, so the NCAA is double checking results.

Looks like it may be official.?. Congrats to the Ducks on the major upset, as they were only ranked #12 coming into today's race.

Being the heavy favorite, must be disappointing for the women's team with the 3rd place finish. But, as they say, that's why they run the race. And, unofficially the Buffs will still have 3-4 All Americans (which I believe is for all finishers in the Top 40). Congrats to them!

In the men's race, looks like favorite Northern Arizona (NAU) has one of their guys pacing the field. Still a long way to go. No Buffs in the top 30 at the latest split, but race was only ~1/3rd of the way done at that point.
