BOULDER - Cali Castagnola put the finishing touches on a wild lacrosse game on Thursday, giving Colorado a thrilling 15-14 overtime victory over James Madison at Kittredge Field. Castagnola scored the sudden-victory goal one minute and 35 seconds into overtime as the Buffaloes improved to 4-1 on the season after the win in their home opener.
“It’s always exciting to play at home and be at home," said head coach Ann Elliott. "To come out with a win today is big for us. It was a tough game. We knew we were going to have to battle for 60 minutes. JMU is a very good team. We’re excited; it could have been prettier and we could have done things better, but we’re excited to get the win today.”
For Castagnola, it was her fourth goal of the game, matching teammate Johnna Fusco as the game's leading goal scorers. She also had two assists to match her career high of six points. Sarah Lautman and Carly Cox each scored three times.
