BOULDER — Alexis Keating’s golf game is rounding into shape at just the right time.

In her last three tournaments, the Colorado senior has improved in each event. She’s moved up from a top-50 to a top-40 to a top-30 finish, and in each tournament, she’s shaved strokes from her total, with her last effort a 6-over par 222 at the Arizona State Invitational.

Next up: the Pac-12 Championships, to be contested next Monday through Wednesday at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif. It’s a stage that’s set for success for Keating.

Based on rankings, looks like a good 1st round for the Buffs, as they're currently in a tie for 4th at -2 after their 1st round. (Some other teams still finishing up, so CU's place could move down a little.)

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Senior Alexis Keating and junior Esther Lee are tied for fifth place and the 40th-ranked University of Colorado women’s golf team is tied for fourth after recording its best round of the spring here Monday on the first day of the Pac-12 Championships at Ruby Hill Golf Club.

As a group, Colorado combined to shoot 286 or 2-under par, four strokes better than its previous best round this spring—a 290 in the first round of the Silverado Showdown earlier this month. The Buffaloes made 61 pars, which tied Stanford for the most among any team. Colorado was also tied for first in par 3 scoring as they averaged 2.95 strokes on what was a perfect day for golf—sunny and temperatures in the 70s.

“The team played pretty solid today,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “We played the front nine last, so the front nine was our second nine and they really played a good second nine. The back nine is probably the harder of the two, but it was a strong finish, which was really nice to see. We wish it would have been a little more under par, but we’re still in there fighting and we just have to keep it going.”

Looks like the Buffs had another very good round today, and are tied at 4th***, with a few of the teams still finishing their rounds. The Buffs, -4 for the day and now -6 for the Championships, were paced with a great -6 by senior Alexis Keating, who currently (again, with some still finishing rounds) is in 1st place in the individual leaderboard by a stroke at -8. (***EDIT- Arizona, who the Buffs were tied with, got one more birdy, so the Buffs are now in 5th.)

In being 4th, the #40 rated (per the leaderboard) Buffs are, as i write this, 5 strokes ahead of #20 Oregon, 11 ahead of #12 Stanford, 12 ahead of #13 Washington and 15 ahead of #15 Cal.

Hope the Buffs keep it up tomorrow for a top finish!

Someone did pass Ms. Keating (by a stroke), but she (and the Buffs) are still in good position with round 2 now complete for all teams.

Tomorrow is huge. Possible individual P12 championship on the line along with a bid to the NCAA Regional for the team.

I'll be following on golfstat for sure.
