BOULDER – After announcing that women's soccer would be added as a varsity sport in 1993, the Buffs had to wait three more years until they played their first game. And on Aug. 31, 1996 CU traveled to Bakersfield, Calif., to play the inaugural game in program history. The Buffs didn't have to wait long for the program's first goal, when in the 77th freshman Shawn Kenyon headed-in the first goal in school history, on route to a 1-1 tie against Cal State Bakersfield.
