So the last thread was dedicated to the top 4 candidates identified by Rivals. As 2 are virtually officially removed from contention (Durkin and D Gibbs), two from the original list still appear to be in play (Pendergast and G Gibbs). However many are suggesting the search has probably gone beyond those 2.

Here is a running list of names proposed by the media or ABers (I will add to it with all names proposed in seriousness-e.g. if someone suggests Lou Holtz I probably wouldn´t add him :):

Clancy Pendergast
-Former DC-USC
Gary Gibbs-KC Chiefs-LBs
Kevin Clune-Hawaii DC
Marion Hobby-Clemson Co-DC and DEs
Rocky Seto-Former DC-USC, current defensive passing game coordinator Seattle
Ron English-Former Louisville and Michigan DC, most recently HC, E.Michigan
Mike Stoops-Oklahoma DC
Marcel Yates-Boise State DC
Kevin Steele- Alabama LB coach
Harlon Barnett- Michigan State LB coach
Mike Smith-former Falcons coach
Bobby Hauck-west coast, CU ties
Jim Leavitt-SF LB coach
John Thompson-Texas State Def Coordinator
Nick Holt-WKU DC

We can use this thread to discuss any prospective candidates, rumors, etc.

This would be a demotion for him and at the same time not that exciting given the performance of his recent defenses but Mike Stoops is looking and was rumored to have interviewed for the LSU position. He is a "big name" but not a hot commodity at this point. Who else should we add to the list?

What happened to Ron English after getting fired at EMU.?
may not have much experience with pac12 offenses though

Maybe someone on this list:

What about Bo Peep's bro? Is he still on the market or did he also go to Youngstown.

I'm on board with bringing in a Hobby/Reed combination from Clemson. Although I've been told on this board that I'm not really and I'm just imagining that I am because we didn't get Durkin. Number one defense in CFB and top recruiters, as well as connections to our current staff.

There's some really great potential candidates (always) beyond the obvious DJ Durkin and Pendergast. Will be interesting to see where it goes.

Erroneous! If he wasn't on the original candidate list provided by Rivals, he's a terrible candidate!

I've stated that I'm concerned about how long it's taking for this to get done. However, I am not going to cry bust if it's not one of the "top 4".

It's also okay to for people to make instant reactions if they are underwhelmed by the choice. Beginning to remind me a lot of two years ago. Patience was preached and we ended up with freaking Neinas.

Thanks for the flashback nightmares. Ugh.

It was alluded to in Ringo's article that some candidates are currently still coaching. That would be a great hire from any of the pro or college teams still going, unless it's a position guy, then we'd have to just see who it was.

I got the impression he was saying they are employed elsewhere so wouldnt name them out of respect to current team

Fair enough. The wait-and-see approach with CU football has definitely disappointed me far more often than it's pleasantly surprised me, but I can't help to remain optimistic regardless of the initial gut reaction to the hire.

And scoring defense....another issue...but not many PAC schools in top 50 either...

you're probably right. oh well. I almost got optimistic for a minute there.

What about Marcel Yates?

I know he's only been at Boise for one year, but he came from A&M. He *probably* has some contacts in Texas and the Boise defense is opportunistic.

Has anyone heard if Seto has any actual interest in the CU job? I'd be just as excited about him as any of the ones mentioned. Has everything CU needs from the position.

BSU alum combined with the fact that we're not viewed as a step up from BSU makes this unlikely.

I doubt, even if he was interested, that he would say anything right now. His club is in the middle of a super bowl run. Should they be eliminated this week, maybe we hear something but I doubt we hear anything until that happens.

Yeah, that's what I'd figure. Mac referred to coaching candidates possibly still coaching, so it could easily be someone on an NFL roster, as well as college. The problem, however, is if Seto is the target, they could be waiting until February. They would ultimately have to have some sort of under the table agreement. No way Mac waits until NSD (basically) to announce the new DC.
