Dan Hawkins predicts a 10 win season in 2009

Gutsy. Overly confident. Asinine. Right on!

All appropriate words used to describe CU football head coach Dan Hawkins’ comment last week, “10 wins and no excuses,” in reference to the upcoming 2009 season. Those throughout the country may have found this comical, following a 5-7 season, thought by many to be a disappointment. But those close to the organization know that the Buffs are close to getting over that hump to becoming one of the top caliber teams in college football.

FWIW, Matt Hayes, The Sporting News college football guy (and personal publicist to Skippy Neuweasel...) had his list of 5 teams to watch next season in college football. Teams to be most improved. CU was on his list. He mentioned the 5-7 record, but pointed out the ridiculous number of injuries and also predicted Cody Hawkins will develop into one of the top QBs in the Big XII next season.

    I hope he's right...

Seeing as Cody Hawkins won't even be playing next year, I have a hard time believing this guy's prediction.

If it's not Hansen, we're in for more of the same.

I disagree, Hawkins can be effective when the O-line is healthy, but becuase of his lack of athleticism his flaws are magnified when defenders are in the back field.

I agree. My dad says this to me all the time, if we brought in Sam Bradford to replace Hawkins, we wouldnt have a whole lot more success. If the oline cant protect and the WR's cant get open then it doesnt matter if we have Jesus himself back there

We would have needed a vintage 1987 Elway to compensate for our offensive line this year.

Hawkins was awesome against Nebraska. If he can bring that more consistently, he can be a good D1 BCS confrence QB.

I disagree. I think Jesus would do well in the Spread. Also, the Hail Mary would be a threat every down.

I don't think Hawkins can be any more than an average Big 12 QB.

We can make all the excuses we want to for Cody. Bottom line, for me, is that he doesn't have the arm strength, height, or speed to be a truly great D-1 quarterback. He makes an awesome backup, but your starter needs to have the physical skills to put the team on his shoulders and will them to victory. Cody, as much as I love the "gamer" in him, doesn't possess that ability. I don't think it matters who he has in front of him on the O-Line. His physical limitations will always be there. And please, don't hit me with the Doug Flutie comparisons. Flutie had much better mobility and a cannon for an arm.

Dude! He was WAY better than average as a god damned freshman. Get real. But I still think it will be Hansen.

Cody's great, but we need to develop greater.

The O-line was definitely a problem.

10 wins baby... book it! Dan the freakin' man said so.

9th in the Big 12 in passing efficiency is not very good.

Actually I've accepted the fact that Cody will be the starting QB all 4 years. I expect just about every QB recruit he encounters to laugh in Dan's face when he asks them to come to CU. At least until Cody's senior year's recruiting cycle.

I will respectfully disagree with Cody being way better than average as a Frosh. He was ranked 80th in the country in passing efficiency that year. After other teams saw his limitations they quickly adjusted to take away most of the passing offense. The line and injuries took a lot of blame for Cody's limitations.

If you are right about him starting for 4 years then I would really question that Dan Hawkins should be the HC.

We would have been 0-11 with Elway at QB.

I disagree. Why would they pull the RS off Hansen then? I think with Hawk playing Hansen and Ballanger at end of Texas proved that he will give others the chance. I think Hanseen will be the starter against the rams.

Also Cody didn't deter Clark Evans.
