He's finally starting to come around. Having to compete with Stanford and Cal on the athletic field will help us! If they can be successful there is really no more excuse. You know he doesn't want to be laughed at by these guys.
Hope this isn't another smokescreen by DeStiff. And I don't see what difference it would make regardless of what D-1 conference the new coach comes from. Oh, and on upgrades, why would DeStiff say he doesn't know what the upgrades should be, and that would be up to the new coach? DeStiff is a Meth-head
Well at least he is somewhat acknowledging that we need them. I'm just trying to stay positive at this point. We have seen some good developments regarding the program since June other than the on field performance.
He is saying that they want BCS coaching experience...meaning they have hired Dave Logan! :wow:
Also think his comments are to let folks know that Mac would not be his choice. Currently on the job at a BCS or on a staff like the conf we are joining
you apparently do not know that Cal has a "special admissions" clause in every FR class. even Rick N. was complaining about it a year ago. guys he couldn't recruit to UCLA because they couldn't get in..... Cal may be a great school, but they honey in a lot of non-admits for sports.
I'd be willing to bet he knows what upgrades Bohn and the AD are looking at, but he isn't going to comment on them because that's Bohn's area. Just a guess.
"It's entirely Mike's decision" (but Mike knows if must be a B12 or 12Pac coach who meets my long list of criteria before I sign off on his choice.)
"I haven't thought much about it (because Mike is going to take the fall if he screws it up).
This is true. Cal has started letting players in that wouldn't be there during the 90's and early 00's under Holmoe.
Marshan Lynch went to Cal right?
i also think from my experience on campus (which is considerable) Phil DiStefano is actually a pretty decent administrator. he's not an all-purpose scapegoat for Dan Hawkins on-field failures. I think and from what I hear from higher up colleagues Phil is a pretty competent guy esp. compared to some of the Hoffmans and Albinos of the world.
we all wanted Hawk gone last year. Sure. that aside. I think Phil is good for CU. as much or more than Bohn, he was part of the get into the Pac move on CU's part.
Benson was not well liked by faculty as prez, so to me....jury is out. he's been a creature of the oil/energy business for decades so whether he sees CU as a means to an end or a means remains to be seen imo. he's not "an academic" or was ever popular with "academics" so i laugh sometimes when some AB posters associate him with the evil anti-football liberal intelligentsia....which doesn't exist.
Give praise when due. Phil said the right things. I can't ask for much more.
Better get someone who can recruit Cali. More alumni and donors would help too.
Benson is purely a politician and a fundraiser
ya, i heard benson was not liked by faculty as well. when i was in school a few of the professors told me they really didn't want benson to be president. he's not an academic guy, he's not an athletic guy, why the hell was he chosen as president? who wanted him?
I am encouraged that he said facilities need to be improved...
