Ed Rush and officials being investigated for targeting Zona

I've learned very few things to be true in life. One of these is things is that anything done by Rush sucks ass.

The best thing that could happen to Pac-12 bball is driving that guy out

If a general knowledge of sports history is any guide, we'll soon see a promotion and contract extension for Rush.

Comfirms what we've been saying all year about Ed Rush and P12 officials. Integrity has been compromised, time to fix it Larry.

PAC 12 investigating Arizona's Miller being targeted

CBS Basketball

Pac-12 coordinator of basketball officials and former NBA referee Ed Rush has been investigated by the Pac-12 for comments made about Arizona coach Sean Miller in meetings that included several Pac-12 referees.

Larry Scott needs to get this **** under control.

Good old larry says "nothing to see here"

Pac-12 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott has responded to reports that men’s basketball Coordinator of Officials Ed Rush improperly incentivized game referees during the Pac-12 Tournament."I can confirm that following the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament, we received a complaint that Pac-12 Coordinator of Officials Ed Rush offered game officials inappropriate incentives for being stricter with Pac-12 coaches,” Commissioner Scott said on Monday.
“I consider the integrity of our officiating program to be of the highest importance and immediately ordered a review of the matter. Based on the review, we have concluded that while Rush made inappropriate comments that he now regrets during internal meetings that referenced rewards, he made the comments in jest and the officials in the room realized they were not serious offers. Following our review, we have discussed the matter with Rush, taken steps to ensure it does not happen again, and communicated our findings to all of our officials.

Well if he did this, you'd presume he's done it other times, maybe every important game? Once is too many. For the integrity of the game, this guy must go. Nobody will trust a PAC12 crew again.

makes you wonder about the treatment we got after Boyle stoked the fires post-zona game.. Rush is exactly the small minded ego-centric moron you DONT want influencing your officiating.

This would be laughable if not actually true. We have the guy in charge of our officials (joking or not) saying to T up or throw out Sean Miller in the Pac 12 Tourney. THEN HE ACTUALLY GETS T'D UP. The news comes out, and the almighty Larry Scott looks the other way? That is utter bull****. Complete bull****.

It's almost as if Ed Rush is trying to get fired a la George Costanza and Larry Scott won't pull the trigger.

Did anybody trust a Pac 12 crew before this came out?

Pachoops just tweeted this out

Mark Cuban, 1/8/02: "Ed Rush might have been a great ref, but I wouldn't hire him to manage a Dairy Queen. His interest is not in the integrity of the game or improving the officiating."

Re: Eddie Rush and officials being investigated for targeting Zona

This is an embarrassment for the conference. Scott needs to grow a pair, do the right thing, and fire Rush's ass. There's more to being a commissioner than just money Larry.

Good point. Something like this is rare though. The fact that a ref would speak out about this, even if it was anonymous, is troublesome. Became pretty obvious during the season that game to game these refs weren't on the same page, even within the same crews. Coaches and AD's will not react well to this story, and if they feel something like this is happening to them next season it could get go public and get ugly.

That is a seriously weak response from Scott. He doesn't care about bad officiating and never has.

What a pathetic response by Scott. If he wants our conference to be taken seriously he needs to fix the officiating.

That's because he was the role model for bad officiating. The PAC cannot possibly allow this guy to continue.

The first ***** in the heretofore unassailable armor of Larry Scott. He's really taking the wrong approach on this. i hope somebody can get in his ear and set him in the right direction. You can't let stuff like this happen.

To the "get ugly" part. Good. Scott needs to start feeling some heat.

and on queue Andy Glockner turns up the heat.

The Pac-12 simply cannot have this. Larry Scott cannot enable this. He’s too savvy a businessman to believe he can brush this under the rug and have Pac-12 basketball operate under a cloud of suspicion. Rush may very well have been joking, but the impact of his words, both on the referees who report to him and to the fans who watch his league, is anything but a joke. The only joke would be if the league does nothing about this.

Scott's been great in terms of taking the conference into the 21st century as a sports organization. That's what he's good at. He's done a hell of a job with re-branding and increasing revenue.

It remains to be seen whether he will become a good leader on things like officiating, which has been the biggest administrative problem in this conference for years. He did the thing that smart executives do in both football and basketball by hiring a big time guy to lead both sports and then trusted them to do their jobs. I see improvement in football, but he definitely pegged the wrong guy for basketball. Would have been better to poach the head of officials from the WCC (or similar) in order to get a guy familiar with the western college officials and provide that guy a budget to implement a bigger vision. Maybe this will happen with the next hire. Rush has to go.
