Fired Oct. 15 by the University of Nebraska, Steve Pederson is back in college athletics.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Pederson, Nebraska’s AD for five years, will be introduced at a 11:30 a.m. news conference as Pittsburgh’s new athletic director.

Pederson was Pitt’s AD from 1996 to 2002 before leaving for Nebraska.

Bizzare. I wonder if this means the end of the Wanny era.

Has to be. Heard he asked for a one-year extension for recruiting purposes and was denied.

You'd hope that he learned something from his mistakes at NU. It wasn't the football team's performance so much that got him fired; it was more his heavy handed style and the fact that he ran a lot of traditionalists off. Oh, and then there is the rumor that he gave an employment contract to one of his buddies and tweaked the numbers so that it didn't have to be approved by the Regents. This would explain the being summoned on short notice and then terminated. The regents allegedly told Chancellor Perlman that to get rid of him or they would get rid of them both.

I am sure there was pressure to fix the football problem and that will also be a part of the equation for sure. No doubt King Pedey rebuffed the regents (or didn't get the hint) when he told them to make a change.

It was the culmination of a lot of bad decisions on his part.

Why? All he did was hire Buzz and Hawk. Also gets people excited and isn't an idot like Tharp. What's to love?

Since Mark May's hate for the Huskers is well known, I wonder if having Pud at his alma mater gives him the warm fuzzies now! :smile2:

His defining moment was putting nebraska tickets 2 years ago into a combo pack with the mizzou game.

He did the same this year for basketball and the KU game. You have to buy a 4-pack if you want KU tickets this year...And boy are they bitching about it, but they're still coming and still paying our AD 4 times more than usual.

Plus he's not an idiot like Tharp was. That's enugh for me to love.

Pederson actually did a wonderful job at Pitt before he took the Nebraska job.. Pitt has wonderful facilities in both basketball and football..

He'll probably is a better fit at a place where he can be an egomaniac and people won't get too upset about it..

Not sure what he'll do with Wanny.. There's talk that he will get an extension tomorrow..

Seems like Wanny's been on the hot seat for awhile now. The pedey hire really throws a wrench into things. Is slashabilly actually a candidate at Pitt? Is Jabba-the-Mangino still on Pitt's radar? Does pedey extend Wanny?

This could reach soap opera proportions real quick.

He built those facilities too. Actually convinced the regents to demolish the football stadium and built one of the finest college basketball facilities in the country at that time. Moved Pitt football to Heinz field.
