Before the program can turn around the team has to start "smelling the blood in water" and put the game away. I do feel the team left it all on the field but did not make the plays to win. The Good The oline blocked so much better on passing plays than last week it was really encouraging. Paul Richardson - worth the price of admission by himself. A truly electric player. Hansen played well. FG kicker performed under pressure. Rippy was good on Defense. Stewart was very good on the screens and delay passes out of the back field. No turnovers. The bad - Total lack of a running game. Defense could not come up with the big stop when the game was on the line. Let Cal march down the field when we were ahead 27-23. Way too easy. Poor tackling technique...too many arm tackles. Mental breakdowns at key times - kicking the ball out of bounds for example. Special teams need to come up with more big plays - never pinned Cal deep that I remembered. The Ugly - Penalties - a team cannot keep putting itself in a hole constantly and expect to win especially when you do not have overwhelming talent. Defense gives up too many big plays. Comments - The effort was good and I plan on being patient but I do not believe in moral victories. This was a winnable game that was lost. CU is not going to see a lot of those coming up. Other WRs have to start contributing. I did not like the play calling in the red zone (this is my opinion) - CU has some tall receivers and I would of like to see Clemons and McCullough on the field with PRich in the Red Zone. Thornton should also be a threat down there. Team settles for 3 too often.
