Senior defensive tackle George Hypolite, dubbed the “Rabid Goldfish” in last November’s South Park introductions for the Nebraska game (he’s taken it in stride) is on the official watch lists for five major awards that honor defensive players. Five? No player in CU history has been on the list for that many at any point during the season (of course with the proliferation of awards in the last decade, a sweep like George has pulled off could only happen with four). He’s on the watch lists for the Lombardi Award (one of 54 preseason candidates); the Ronnie Lott Award (one of 42); the Chuck Bednarik Award (one of 75); Bronko Nagurski Award (one of 88); and the Outland Trophy (one of 70). He is a second-team preseason All-America choice by the Sporting News, Lindy’s Big 12 Football and Nationalchamps.net, while Athlon named him to its third-team; he is also one of 47 defensive tackles on the Football Writer’s Association of America preseason All-America checklist. Lindy’s ranked him as the No. 4 DT in the nation, while Phil Steele’s College Football tabbed him at No. 10. A unanimous choice for preseason first-team All-Big 12 honors across the board, including by USA Today and the Big 12 Media.

Does that he's academically ineligible for the upcoming season or that he can get things in shape over the summer?

Does being academically ineligible count against his 4-year eligibility?

I was actually looking forward to finally seeing Simas on the field this year.

Losing simas hurts. Great hands, great route running and can leap. We can't afford to lose any playmakers at wr. So, smith, celestine and then a bunch of possesion type guys. Maybe williams steps up and this espinoza kid looked good.

I'd like to see cu go an off-season without suspensions and academic casulties.

Either I'm blind or stupid (don't answer that), but I didn't see any reference to Simas in the Plaiti-tudes article (and everytime I did a word search, my IE would freeze up ) Where was it?

Man, if Simas, Vaimouga (sp), and Tau are all ineligible for the season it gonna suck in our depth chart. Man, we need some good news.

So, I heard Nuckols was prob going to commit this weekend?

Actually-- you are exactly right, and I apologize.

I was looking at the CU notes prepared by the AD - for the Big 12 media day event tomorrow.

"Three players will be academically ineligible based on the first term of summer school: WR Markques Simas, OT Sione Tau and OLB Nate Vaiomounga."

Gotcha. Thanks. That does blow. Let's hope he can get back on track.

PS. :hijacked: Another thanks to you, Slade, for getting me $0.10 off my coffee this morning. The morning trivia question at Carribou was "what was the name of Al Pacino's character in 'Scent of a Woman'?" The only reason I got it was because your handle and avatar.

The rules state that you have 5 years in which to play 4. Your 5 year clock begins when you set foot in your first college classroom.

So he's now only got 3 more to play.

All 3 of those are potentially big losses. What is with guys not getting it done in the classroom? College is hard, but it's not THAT hard. Get it together, guys!

Eh, losing Simas hurts. Tau to a lesser extent, but it will be all right. Where did you hear that about Nuckols?

It will be alright when our wr's score some td's and start catching the ball. Simas gave that group more size, great hands etc..

Other than williams, most of our wr's are 6-0 or smaller.

Maybe willimas steps up and celestine becomes more consistent.

    The espinoza kid looked good.

If Geer plays this year, the loss of Simas is mitigated. Obviously, it would be nice to have him though. The coaches are just going to have to get more creative now. Maybe get the TEs and RBs more involved, who knows.

And BTW, this is why we're looking at bringing in a few WRs in this class. It remains a need position.

I agree,it's not like we don't have playmakers at wr,just need to find more consistency and big plays.Celestine and smith need to get the ball in the end zone and williams and mcknight need to keep the chains moving.

I'm looking forward to seeing this deehan kid.

I thought I read on Rivals (free suff) that Nuckols was taking an unofficial visit to CU, and many think that he will prob commit when he comes up.

He set up an official visit to CU for the Texas game in early October. We shall see how it goes.

The next commit probably comes from Jake Fischer (ILB out of Arizona) or Nosa Eguae (DE out of Texas).

Yeah I saw that too, i.e. about Fischer and Eguae. We need some good news now, although it does look as if Riar might play now.

Good news you say? How about the fact that Fataagi wasn't part of the academically ineligible list?

If he can actually stay eligible, we have four of the five o-line spots set.

When did O-lineman start having eligibility problems? Everyone knows they are, by far, the smartest group on the team. And handsome men too.
