    My birthday is coming up, and my wife wants ideas for gifts. I can't think of anything, so figure I might as well upgrade my computer monitor.

    Really wanting to step into the next generation here, something around 27" with a nice refresh rate and higher resolution than 1920 x 1080..... and ideally something affordable (~$400??)

    Any thoughts or recommendations? I have the video cards to output some good power.

    Also, I could be convinced that the 1920 x 1080 doesn't matter

    I have been reading about those 144mhz monitors. Anyone have one of those?

    or any of the other monoprice 27" IPS monitors. They are imported from Korea and are the "defect" Dell/Apple 27" monitors. They only accept "A quality" and these monitors are "A-". I have one. It's ****ing awesome. 1080p is for the birds, unless you have 144hz. I'm planning on using this until 4k @144hz is a reality for someone not running dual slis and a budget.

    SBG probably knows a hell of a lot more about computers than I do, but I was always told response time was the key ingredient for gaming monitors. idk if that's outdated now or what, but there are 1 ms monitors now which is a lot better than the 6 ms of those linked so far

    The lower the response rate the better the monitor and same for refresh rate. But in the price to performance category the one I linked to is best in it's category. If you want to go to 4K or 144hz or 1ms you'll have to spend more cash.

    I have one of those Korean imports. I can never go back to 1080p. My monitor overclocked to 120hz no problem. Next up will be 4k with 96hz or higher

    My monitor died last night. It is almost overwhelming how many gaming monitors are out there. 4k? 2k? 1080p with 1ms response time with 144 Hz refresh rate? Ultra widescreen? G-Sync?

    @Matt
    I got this guy for Christmas. Is actually pretty nice for not being high-end. Great colors, and some of the senseye stuff they have to help with blue waves have really reduced eye strain for me.

    BenQ is making some solid monitors.

    I was eyeing the Acer Predator XB271HU for the 144Hz refresh and g-sync but then I am stuck with Nvidia for the next couple of years. Expensive though... I still have no idea what I am going to do.
