Not just speculation, but words from on high:

    http://www.timescall.com/sports-college/sportscollege-story.asp?ID=19610

no more downhill running. However, I am ok with it, because of the bolded part below:

I like a coach that does that... And the offense did change significantly throughout the year (for the better, for once)...

Pass heavy, but with the threat of run. Something pretty similar to Mizzou or Kansas perhaps?

I am excited about the WR talent next year, and with TH getting some reps. should be interesting...

I actually think we have the athletes to be a succesful passing team right now. We are gonna be fricken loaded at WR next year. The staff worries me more than anything though.

We were "fricken loaded" at WR THIS year, too. We were also loaded at RB. We were also loaded at TE. I sure didn't see the coaches putting in any kind of offense to maximize those areas of the field.

Until the OL improves, the WR's aren't going to matter.

Passing? Hrmmm...I like the running game setting up the pass. I think they need to get multi-demensional on offense...then again...so does nebraska :/

well, the ol did improve a bit over the year... still bad, but improved, i thought. also, having a qb with a little more athleticism in there helped a bit too.

i would hope that the ol is going to be much better next year, even despite the coaching... and if mtm is in the mix next year, that adds some nastiness to the line too.

i am searching for glimmers of hope!

More spread formations would be great. At the very least we should be putting 3 WRs on the field every down. More zone read with Speedy and Hansen would also please me.

We were NOT "fricken loaded" at WR early this season, before Simas got in the lineup healthy, while Will Jeff was just getting his feet wet and while Simmons wasn't seeing the field (come to think of it, that one never really changed...). Think back to the Toledo and Wyo games - beyond McKnight there was very little going on at the WR position. Espinoza and Ebner were seeing a lot of playing time.

But you have a point about the RBs. The talk about using the talent sounds a lot like the talk that we'd have a power running game with all our RBs and our big talented OL this year. There is plenty of reason to wonder if it will ever actually happen...

Sometimes honestly I think we need a thread or forum for people who cannot see single positive possibility for the rest of eternity.

At the rate we've already started at, we'll be thinking the offense will be better than the 1998-99 Broncos!:woot:

The depth at RB is scary. That alone necessitates a movement away from a run-oriented offense. You have an above average RB whom is injury prone in Speedy, Sumler, and Lockridge. Mister Jones is not getting here until the Fall, if he gets in at all, so a pass-oriented offense makes sense.

The wide receivers we ENDED the year with were the same wide receivers on the team when we BEGAN the year. Simas was suspended for TWO games but was essentially a no-show in the offense until the last four games of the season, and the staff never so much as gave Simmons a shot at the field. In addition to the WR, we were absolutely loaded at TE this year - yet our TE's didn't get too much involvement in the offensive scheme.

Add to that the wealth of talent we had at RB, and anybody who thinks the staff is going to take advantage of the talent on the field is kidding himself/herself.

Simas was suspended for two games, injured (out) for another one (Wyoming), then playing hurt for a while. Will Jeff was not part of the offense at all early on. Simas, Jefferson and Simmons all gained experience. So no, the receivers that ended the year were not the same as the receivers who started the year. And the receivers who start next year will be even deeper and more experienced than the ones that ended this year.

But by all means, continue to pretend that Scotty McKnight + walk-ons = "loaded at WR"....

all it probably means is in the game(s) we win next year we'll "accidentally" rush for 250 yards.

You do realize Simas had 3 out of 4 100 yard games in the last 4. Those are numbers we haven't seen in some time here. The O-line started blocking, and we started scoring and moving the ball. Maybe it's a preview of things to come on offense, maybe not. I would be worried more abotu things like special teams and coaching than offensive production right now.

Geer had 100 more yards receiving and 10 more catches than the next closest TE and was elected to the 1st team All Big XII, and our TEs weren't involved?

That doesn't touch on the critical catches that Devenny and Deehan made as well.

if it were me, i'd look long and hard at Greg Davis' post-Vince Young O with McCoy. high % throws (good for Hanson), making plays with your feet (good for Hanson), shifty back out of zone read looks (good for Speedy).
