Note to mods: I did read the Denver Post copyright issue on this board and had the impression that I could post part of the story on this board which I did and when you copy and paste from the Denver Post, you get the "Read more" along with the name of the title and internet link. If I didn't follow protocol, you are free to do whatever you want with this thread.

Back to the subject on hand: Frei did write a good article but the question is do we have enough CU or CSU alumni writing about the college sports programs in this state for the state's flagship newspaper?

IMO, it shouldn't really matter where they're from IF they are professional and don't try to cut the programs out at the knees every chance they get just to gain readership. I don't know if I (we?) have thin skin when it comes to Henderson, Kizla, ... but it seems to me that they write more negative crap about CU than positive. Not saying they need to get on their knees, but having a guy like Henderson say CU's facilities are like the Bangladesh of athletics doesn't help our situation when the national press picks that up and runs with it as fact.

They write plenty of positive stuff about Little Brother and very few positive things about CU.

I think in General, it's a shock value culture that the media has embraced to generate ratings. The, "it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission" model is more the norm. Why not just start throwing a bunch of rumors and lies around and hope one sticks and if it doesn't just make a short apology and all is forgiven. Or, like most, just don't say anything at all.

Maybe it would help the local media if they had more CU/CSU alum in their ranks but I doubt it would make much of a difference. As sad as it is, these "journalists" (I cringe when I say that) need to make a living too. They only way they can do that is by doing something that will shine the spotlight on them.

What's going to stir up more attention:

"Hawkins will leave the University of Colorado with a 1.8 Million Dollar buyout. None of which will come from tax payer money."

    or

"Hawkins will leave the University of Colorado with a 1.8 Million Dollar buyout." Let’s just conveniently leave off the part that has to do with where the funds come from and allow the public to draw their own conclusions...

Sorry, Frei joined in the witchhunt, he has no credibility with me. Virtually none of the Denver media, save Bruce Plaskett, reported both sides of the sotry. He wants to come back with the aww shucks, I made a mistake line. Not buying, get lost Terry.

I don't think any links to the DP should be allowed as long as they continue to discredit the university. Why give them the attention? If you want to improve CU coverage donate to radio shows like Buffchips and other blogs you like.

Seriously. Although half the time it's because I think the expectations for CSU are just so much lower. I mean, Fairchild is something like 6-17 over the last two seasons (3-17 since they started 3-0 last year) and you never hear any criticism of him at all. In fact, to listen to the Denver media you'd still think any program would be lucky to have him....

I am sorry.... but that first paragraph was very poorly written. I am not sure exactly what he was trying to convey.

I did not think it was a good article at all. It continues with the excuse making that has been part of this program since Mike Bohn arrived. Frei infers that Hawkins failed because of CU's lack of commitment to athletics. Hawkins failed because he was incompetent and in way over his head. Losses to Montana State, Toledo, CSU, blowing leads to KU (twice), had little to do with CU's commitment to athletics. Hawkins was given a lot more than his predecessor but produced less.

The institutional support did not get in the way of targeting recruits from Texas, nor did the institution dictate when to go for it on forth, or try for 2 point conversions, or turn the field goal kicking from a strength to a liability, or to sap the emotion from the sidelines at home and away.

    Coaching counts.

This is true. However, he has, on numerous occasions, admitted that he was wrong for his part in the witchunt, and has apologized. Jiz, Henderson, or Krieger would never admit they were wrong.

OK, so TF is just a little less of a hack, bravo for him. The fact remains, Bruce Plaskett could figure it out. He could report both sides of the story and give an even, fair account. Frei and his ilk of infotainers either couldn't or wouldn't. Now that he got his mileage out of the one-sided sensationalist reporting, he comes crawling back trying to make nice. Sorry, the damage done cannot be undone now and credibility is all a "journalist" has to trade...TF sold his. JMO.
