I appreciate you doing that. What I'd really like to hear is that we can set up our tailgate anywhere we want to without fear of the po po coming around. Sounds like they stopped well short of telling you that. They're OK with kicking us off the grass, just so long as they're courteous about it.
so .. will Sack Gate return on the end near the music building next season ?
Probably. It's a good spot. The biggest drawback is the lack of hot coeds strolling by. On the positive side, it's a bit more private and actually gives us more room. It's shady in the warm months, and sunny in the cold months. Nobody is going to care about us being on the grass, and we can pretty much do whatever we want there.
Yeah. The loss of "pants optional" tailgating really put a damper on things. Can't wait for 2014!
I've now heard from multiple sources that RG is taking a personal interest in improving the game-day experience. Whether this means we can get our old spot back - without the bike racks and without the jack-booted CUPD harassing us for befouling their prescious grass - remains to be seen. Had this info come to me from a single source, I wouldn't give it much thought. I have gotten this from several folks, none of which are connected to each other, but do have connections with members of the AD.
Call me crazy, but this could be a pretty good year for tailgating. I'm looking forward to it.
good news for allbuffs tailgating is bad news for my liver. I'm still happy though.
Now he's "your" liver?
the word I got is that you can't realistically expect donors to shell out big dollars and then turn around and give them a reason to second guess their commitment to the program on game day. If we expect a premium level of fan level giving, there should be a premium level of fan experience to go along with that.
The AD is in crunch time regarding the facilities expectation, and the game day experience is one of the low hanging fruit that can be addressed in 2014.
And while this is all perfectly logical, I think there remains a lot of obstacles to accomplishing what we're talking about, here. For us, specifically, it's having somebody relocate bike racks that should have never been put there in the first place. But more than that, it's telling the CU department of Student Housing to stick it and deal with having people drinking alcohol on the lawn in front of a residence hall six days a year. There's a great deal of provincialism at CU. Student Housing doesn't want to be told what to do with their facilities by another department. I suspect there will be push-back if it ever gets to that point.
I walked by Farrad field today on my way to the spring game to check out how the construction was coming along around all of the tailgate locations near Sackygate. I'm not as optimistic as I once was in my previous post. It appears there is a 6-8 ft. tall concrete retaining wall starting around 25 ft. north of Farrod field, running east from the music hall almost all the way to the N.E. entrance to Farrod. If tailgating is still allowed in that location, then one would have to back up there vehicle to the wall, and either lift up everything for the tailgate, or carry it around the wall, up to the walkway. I meant to post a picture here, but left my phone in the car. Anyway, I spoke with a couple of construction workers who said there supposed to be out of there by the end of June. But as someone once said, We'll see. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I stopped by the tailgate lot today. We are going to like the set-up this year. We basically have three choices: 1) stay where we were last year and hope the let us on the grass. It's a possibility. 2) go where we went two years ago at the end of the lot, near the music school. Access there is just fine. 3) possibly my favorite option is to move to the area where Buffulance, Buff Bus, etc are located. They added what looks to be an extra 10-12 spaces there. There should be plenty of room, and we all got along with those guys pretty well last year.
In short(too late, I know) this should be a great year for tailgates. :woot:
I vote option 3!
Not that I attend many Sackygates, but option 3 sounds most appealing. Strength in numbers.
I'd like to hear about bike rack proximity before voting (not that I've ever been to a SG).
Sacky post a map of where it will be.
I prefer option 3 as well. It was a lot of fun last year having everybody all crushed together. It made for some challenges, for sure, but the fact of the matter is that there's actually more room over there now. It's hard to describe how, you'll just have to see it for yourself. Suffice it to say the landscape architects at CU have outdone themselves. It's beautiful. If I had to guess, I'd say there's at least 20 spaces that stretch from where the gate is to the West. Maybe more.
Once again thank you Sacky for generously hosting the tailgate.
Got my tickets for ASU and have never been to a Sacky Gate. Do I have to apply? Sign up? Get someone to vouch for me?
Also have not been back to Boulder in some time. What are the current rules on open alcohol while outside the stadium?
Death by stoning if captured.
Stone IPA, that is. Eveyone loves them, bring a bunch.
only rule is to show up with gin, whiskey, and a nice six pack of IPA.
Skip the gin and whiskey. Sacky loves vodkas and ipas so bring lots of those.
That is a better idea. I am more of a Vodka guy myself.
Could have gone the other direction, but would that have been a UBL? I am pretty should I will be stoning after losses...it is legal now.
Contradiction in terms. An oxymoron, if you will. No such thing exists. Vodka is what girls drink.
