looks like for the next two years, the other Big XII game that was played on the same day has been moved....

Aggies-Horns to play on Thanksgiving night

The long-anticiapted move of this year's Texas-Texas A&M football game to Thanksgiving night became offical today, when representatives from the competing schools and ESPN announced the move.

The move is part of a two-year agreement with ESPN that includes the teams' 2009 game, which also will be played on Thanksgiving night. This year's game is in Austin. The 2009 game is in College Station.

It marks the first time since 1993 that the Longhorns and Aggies have played on Thanksgiving, their traditional date for a season-ending showdown. During the first 12 years of the Big 12 era, the teams have played on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

In announcing the move, A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said he was "thrilled" by the decision and praised officials at ESPN and within the Big 12 conference for allowing it to happen. Texas officials also praised the move, with coach Mack Brown noting that the move to Thursday would allow an extra day for either of the teams to prepare for a berth in the Big 12 championship game, played the week after the A&M-Texas rivalry, should either school qualify.

From a Big 12 standpoint, the move adds another national telecast to its Thanksgiving weekend series of contests.

Under the existing TV agreements with the Big 12, the ESPN networks (ESPN and ESPN2) can televise seven Big 12-controlled contests each year, with games to be played on Thursday or Saturday. The Texas-Texas A&M game is one of two contests announced for the 2008 season. The other is the West Virginia-Colorado game, to be played on Thursday, Sept. 18 in Boulder, Colo.

I wonder if they are going to have another conference fill that spot now? With that being the only college game in the nation being played during that time frame, it has to be very inviting to a college.

I love watching the CU NEB game the day after Thanksgiving. Open face turkey sandwich from leftovers, cold beer, and running the Pinkskirts into the dirt!

Does this mean that the game will move to a more comfortable time say like 2:00 instead of 10:00am kickoff. That would be awesome.

Yeah, I could deal with a later kickoff. 10 am kickoffs are way to damn early. You have to get up a like 6 or 7 so your at an adequate level of drunkeness by kickoff.

Well, in all fairness, it's never 10:00 AM when the game is in stincoln. It's at 11:00 AM, which is easier to deal with. Our problem here is that we're in the Mountain Time Zone (yes, there are FOUR time zones in the contiguous United States, not just three). When the game is here, that extra hour really makes a big difference.

Not to the Buff players - their internal clocks are still at 10 am. Of course, they don't have to worry about getting the tailgate started.

Hard to say, I think. If they don't add another game from another conference that day, the game could be permanently at 1:30. Or at 10:00. :sad1: I hope that they will add a Big East or ACC game (or maybe Big 10 if they will come down from their high horse and extend the season another week) that would always be the early game and put CU/UNL permanently in the later slot...

I think this may open the door for Osborne to go after a OU/NU matchup on the day after Thanksgiving. NU fans have been clamoring for it and since the #1 goal at Bugoha seems to be this so called return to tradition, I expect to see them make a major push now.

They problem with that is under the current Big 12 scheduling format, OU and NU don't play every year.

It's not going to be an NU/OU game, but it very well could be an OU/OSU game that takes the place of the UT/A&M game.

I actually like the way this is setting up for the Big 12. Thanksgiving weekend could turn into a showcase for the conference. Thanksgiving night is the A&M/UT game, followed by the CU/NU game and OU/OSU game on T+1, and then the KU/MU game on T+2.

They could renew the Baylor - SMU rivalry and put it on that day. Baptists vs. Methodists - a Protestant slugfest.
