i know we are all freaked out about the defense, particularly the interior defense, but in addition to the good signs on offense, there were some good signs overall for this team.

the last few years, had our Buffs gone down by 11 in the 4th, you could pretty much count on a loss. hawk has been talking about finishing and the team got the message. they nutted up and got it done when they were faced with some bad luck and adversity. this is a critical improvement, imho.

and, part of that overcoming adversity thing was the play of t-wheat, dizon, and walters in the 4th. those guys stepped it up big time and willed the defense to a win.

our Buffs have a long way to go, but they stayed loose and now they know they can come back when the chips are down. we don't have the horses to expect a huge year this season, but if they keep working hard, there is no reason to believe they can't be a bowl team. asu and fsu are going to be real testers the next 2 weeks. let's see how they respond to the big step up in competition. the old adage is that teams make their biggest improvement between week 1 and week 2. we will need that to be true here.

by the way, i listened to the hawk press thing this am--- he was talking about how hard the team worked yesterday at practice. he said a long time journalist who had been covering college ball for many years at the national level came up to him after the sunday practice. the reporter told him that he'd never seen a team work so hard the day after a game. that kind of toughness will pay off, particularly when our athleticism starts to catch up with the work ethic.

    GO BUFFS!

No arguments. There were plenty improvements all around from this team compared to last year. I guess I was just hoping we were a little further along. All that said, this team is taking steps in the right direction, and I really believe we have the right coach running this program right now. I just hope we continue to see improvement through out the season and this team doesn't get too down on itself over the next few weeks. We have one tough, tough OOC schedule this year, and I just hope the kids can keep the heads up through those tough games.

Maybe this can be the teams rallying cry replacing GB's "Unleash Hell" with "NUTTING UP"

I'd say another great sign for the team would be the kick and punt returns. Last year was just aweful with fumbles seemingly every other return. Maybe it was the sauce but I remember several real nice attempts.

While I hold no illusions that the interior D is Top 10 material, we should keep in mind that the team played without its starting MLB and two backup interior D-lineman. Without the availability of 2 key substitute's, Hypolite and Nichols probably didn't get nearly as much rest on Saturday as they would have. I was encouraged that by the fact that they played better as the game went on. Assuming all three are back by conference play, we should be better in this area than the play in the CSU game indicates.

I was very happy to finally see our buffs wear another team down. I'm not saying the lammies were sucking wind and about to fall over in the 4th qtr but you could see they were tired and pretty worn out. Nice to see we were finally starting to out muscle some one. I love our new S&C coach.

I definitely did not see a team that was out of gas in the 4th quarter. The Buffs looked like they were in great shape.
