Wants it to be a secret, but he openly told a caller yesterday to expect to see Scott punt this year.

If he wants it to be secret, he probably shouldn't be discussing it with a caller.

Personally, I'm not all that big of a fan of all the secrets and trickery.

Moronic idea. Why the hell would you risk injury?

Haha... I liked his quote about "have you seen the guy punt? ...when the ball comes back down it's got icicles on it!"

He was joking about it being a secret. He whispered it to the caller. But he was serious, and the caller suggested Scott do trickery, Hawk said they will use Scott to actually PUNT the ball. And as someone who has seen Scott punt, I can tell you Scott CAN drill it with hangtime.

    I don't think it's moronic.

I think that is why they will have him give it a whirl, the hangtime. His kicks may be 10-15 yards shorter, but they most likely will not be returnable. So sacrifice those 10 yards (and a return) for a fair catch and setting up a future play, meh

Do RBs not take the brunt of the punishment among offensive skill players over a season? Why would you give the other team more shots at a star skill player than necessary?

yep, plus it ****s with the opposing teams minds. You put Scott in to punt and they think he is gonna fake it when he just punts it. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it really can mess with people, and then teams don't know if he really is gonna punt or run the next time.

Block for him and he will be fine. No worries here. You have to be creative, you have to take risks. It's not bigger risk than Scott running the ball from his RB position.

I don't get it. Its football, EVERYTIME he lines up for a play he risks injury.

No one is better-protected by the refs than the punter.

Just how many "injuries" have punters suffered the past few seasons???

How about we just try and execute basic special teams first and foremost? JMO, but the last thing this team needs on special teams is trickery or gimmicks.

All this tells me is the coaches don't trust DiLallo, so that's good I guess.

Maybe Scott is our best punter? Thats playing special teams first and foremost. I have seen Scott punt, they are good punts.

For real. I want the special teams to actually be special. Stay in your lanes, block your man, wrap up, make your kicks, etc.

...and Eric Goodman is money in practice as well. Guess I should just get used to ****ty kicking for the forseeable future.

Scott had the best punt in the spring-game... it was a beauty!

I disagree. Punting makes a player a hell of a lot more exposed than running the ball from scrimmage. If he's in the punting motion, somebody can cheap shot his non-kicking leg. After the kick he can get blind sided.

Maybe it's something that could be useful once in a while, but I'm really not comfortable with the idea...

Oh please. You will never know until you see in games. I still think it's a great idea for the mental side. It's football, sometimes you find ways to get creative to win.

I'm not saying everytime either, I just see nothing wrong with trying it. Punters rarely get hurt!

Getting "creative" has been a big part of the problem the past few years IMO. Sometimes I think this staff out-thinks itself instead of just doing the logical thing. Again, I don't like the move and it is not exactly a ringing endorsement of DiLallo, which is concerning.

Punters are rarely starting running backs. Opponents might have just a little more incentive to take a shot at DScott when he's in a vulnerable position than they do with DiLallo...

Punters are rarely your starting tailback.

There is a reason that Dilallo lost his starting job to a walk-on that averaged 39.77 yards per punt. If it makes us better on special teams, then I'm for it.

this is correct. if d-scott is tearing them up, you don't think some teams would trade a 15 yarder for a chance to knock him out?

i'd point you to the dirt-bag ****-eating aggie **** and his intentional, illegal tackle on speedy last season.

Yes, it's moronic. How many teams have their "star" rb punting? But hey, it must be a good idea if hawk is doing it

When the other team cheap shots him and he's down for the year, you and hawk should both be run out of town.

Does Hawk get a Gold medal when DScott fakes the punt and breaks out of the punt rush and scores a TD to win the game against Texas?

    Yeah - that's right

i tell you where i *might* use the play: say you are 3rd and 25 or something like that deep at your end of the field. i might put him back there and have him quick-kick it.

OU used Joe Washington that way in the mid 70's and he led the NCAA in punting per attmept.

i think Hawk shouldn't try and outsmart himself so much. at least not until he sticks a couple 9 win seasons together. remember the ISU game in 07?
