Hawkins: Regrets bringing Cody to CU

Being 5'9 is not his fault, but unfortunately this is not peewee football and if you aren't good enough, you aren't good enough. I am tired of hearing the 'good kid' defense. Whatever. There are 30,000 students at CU, plenty of them are 'good kids'. That doesn't excuse them from getting D's or F's on their finals because they tried really hard.

He did not have the god given talent to play as long as he did or over those he played over. Nothing else really matters. He should not have been on the field in the second half of 08 or at all in 2009.

Minnesota Coach Brewster had his son follow him out there, but he quickly transferred after year 1. These situations rarely work out.

The nepotism apsect is way overplayed, but the team chemistry aspect is way underplayed IMO.

That pretty much hit it on the head. Unless things turn out great, it's going to backfire and create grief for coach and player.

Look at the Iowa situation. Ferentz's kid has been arrested or in trouble a few times. It's just not a good situation to coach your son at this level. It's hard enough in Little League.
