    Stand up and be counted...

I (as well as many others on this site) have received a lot of comments on negative posts directed at Hawkins. I, personally, love CU and the program but think that Hawkins is just not a good fit here. I am sure he will succeed again at a small non-BCS school, his system just doesn't work here. But, hey, I am not a D-1 football coach so what do I know?

Hmmm....I think in the context that you put it, I'd be a "Hawkins supporter". I dont think I am, by any stretch, but, I think the conspiracy theories that we lay out here are ridiculous. The theory that he starts the worst players on the roster and does things that literally EVERYONE of us knows dont make sense, yet he doesnt, doesnt make sense. The man knows football. Is he the right fit? I dont know...not looking good. Is he retarded? No. For EVERY post to be negative, even bringing him into posts that have nothing to do with him, is getting ridiculous. We get it.
Also think that repeatedly calling him "talkins" or "juicebox" is a little childish. Its funny a few times, but, to only call him that is stupid. I genuinely believe that there are some people on here who would rather us NOT win out, because that'd prove Hawkins has this going in the right direction.

Its not that it makes sense...his stubborness is the issue. I have seen the product on the field and it isn't working. To say day in and day out that he is doing things right and continue to put the same ****ty product on the field is being stubborn. Other coaches make adjustments to fix what they are doing wrong...go back to the drawing board. sure, it worked at BSU, but it isn't working here. Yeah, we beat Wyoming, but our offense was the same offense that went out against Toledo and CSU...it looked bad. put out or get out...and right now he isn't putting out.

I am not a Hawkins supporter. I am a CU fan and alum. I'll be CU fan whether Hawkins is here or not. I go to games, buy tickets, buy CU gear and pay my taxes which support CU, among other things. I can say what I jolly well please on the topic.

Now that we have that out of the way, I was patient years 1-3. I still haven't even once said "Fire Hawkins". But I will roundly criticize the apparent inability to produce on field results. Year four is here. I don't expect a NC, a B12 title, or even a B12 N "title". I do expect to see a team that is competitive with other B12 squads. We'll see. Getting punked by CSU and Toledo is not a good sign. Having an offense that is very nearly dead frickin' last in every category in the B12 is not a good sign. Having a D that is very nearly dead frickin' last in the B12 is not a good sign.

Hawk is paid VERY WELL. His main job is to produce a competitive team. All this crap about being a mentor, teacher etc., while admirable, is merely a smokescreen to mask the fact CU is not competitive in what Hawk was hired to do.

As for my rip of the context you put the question, thats my bad. You actually had it very fair, not just "for hawkins" vs "against hawkins". Either I didnt see the poll or it wasnt there yet when I responded. Good poll question.

I was a supporter when he was hired. I was still behind him last year thinking that this year would be the year that showed great improvement.

Watching the team this year it is clear to me that his coaching style and system are not working.

We still can't beat teams that at least on paper we should crush.

THE SYSTEM has the ego of an NFL wide receiver. THE SYSTEM doesn't need to produce results, it just blames other aspects for its inability to have an impact on the program. THE SYSTEM is happy with it's fat contract and perfectly content relaxing in its home (somewhere around 3rd and 8), and not showing up on gameday. THE SYSTEM has all the intangibles but can't produce on the field. I now rename THE SYSTEM T.O. > Transparent Offense.

It's year four and I don't see us winning more than a couple more games this year. He needs to go. That being said he probably will get five years, so I'll continue to do what I currently do, expect losses vs teams like Toledo and hope to stay in the game in the 1st quarter vs Texas.

I can also look forward to answering questions from friends who don't know football well such as, "Damn that guy just ran right into the defense guy why'd he do that?" Well, Sumler just isn't that good of a RB and while we have a bunch of really good ones, they get injured going 110% in practice to impress the coaches and thus aren't playing.

I want him gone until he wins the Big XII north in convincing fashion. Until then, NOT BUYING IT. Only a bowl game and title will save recruiting.

Wait and see. I'm not thrilled by any means with the product I've seen so far this year, but things are so secretive in Hawkins regime it is hard to tell what is fact and what is fiction. The next three games will tell us what we need to know about him.

IMO the first three told us about all we need to know. The three easiest games, right in a row, and the Buffs go 1-2.

Exactly. As for the next three I'm hoping for a decent performance against WVU but it's a revenge game for them in their house so it doesn't bode well. Texas is who we thought they were and they'll probably have their way with us. KU used to be a school we humiliated routinely but they seem to have our number now. Not good.

I generally agree with your argument. The next three gives just a little more rope and remove any lingering doubt we see in some camps. No move will be made before then anyway. We get spanked like I suspect will happen, we will be 1 - 5. The case will be made. No more doubt, no more speculation, no more excuses, no more need to debate it. Administration will have all the proof it needs. Fans already don't need anymore convincing from what I've seen.

While I did feel there were better candidates out there when he was hired, I approved of him getting hired when I heard he was the one. I thought there was a lot of potential for him to do great things. We've come this far, personally I'm willing to give it three more games. I'll make up my mind after that. JMHO

I haven't called for Hawk to be fired. If he can turn it around and just got off to a bad start, I suppose it is possible for him to bail himself out of the hole he's in. I seriously doubt it though. Eventually, the sheer weight of the losing takes it's toll. If Hawk turns in his fourth sub .500 year in a row, it's awful hard to believe he's the guy.

Usually, I say give a coach five years, but along the way you expect to see some signs of life. The team looks like it has been on life support since last year's WVU game. A good showing against NU was a bright spot, but in between those two glimmers of hope lay a 1 pt. win over KjSU and a squeaker vs. mighty ISU, both at home. CU just wasn't competitve last year and they don't look competitive this year in the conference. We'll see over the next month or so, and I'd love to have Hawk make me eat some crow. If they finish 8-4, I'll be chowing down some crow.

I'm curious as to what flavor of kool-aid Hawkins is going to offer us to drink during his radio show tonight? He had best be more open with his answers, and not sh** down everyones throat because he didn't like the questions.

It's also hard to sit there and expect fans to wait five years just to produce a winning season. In this day and age people expect results quickly. Maybe I am being greedy, but when I see UW beat USC with nothing more than a new coach and fired up players that went 0-12 last year, maybe I want that with my favorite team? Honestly we're all realistic, someone new could stroll in and not beat Texas in his first year, but maybe he can? We just want a little hope and Hawk does not convey ANY.

I think you and I see things very much alike. I am less concerned with the W/L columns at this point in Hawkins' tenure as I am with the quality of play on the field.

My gripes: I see our buffs still confused by our system. I see our buffs playing tentative because of their lack of confidence. The lack of synchronization and cohesion between players makes our Buffs look like a team that was thrown together 3 weeks ago, not 3 years ago.

My justification: What has me really questioning Hawk is that I see one and two year coaches (CSU and Toledo for example) with teams that are out hustling us and out executing us. I see teams that may not have the right talent in place for the system they are using but the talent they have is executing well and playing fast in their new system. I'm sure these coaches feel like they don't have the kind of talent they want for their systems or adequate depth just like Hawkins has been saying for 3+ years, but somehow these coaches have been able to coach their teams up so that they at least perform well together. Why can't Hawk do that?

If Hawk can't get all our players on the same page, hustling & executing, after 4 years I think a 5th will end up being a waste. He's got the rest of the season to show me.

Except for really egregious circumstances, any coach should get 5 years. Egregious circumstances would be awful off the field stuff or a Chuck Fairbanks-like record [3-8, 1-10, 3-8]. :wow:

The 5 year rule isn't to give a coach a fair chance or anything like that, it's to let the next coach know that he won't be out on his ass after 3 or 4 years. We can all pretend that any coach would want to come to CU, but that's burying our head in the sand. The environment for a football coach is certainly more challenging at CU than at other BCS conference schools [or didn't you read about the faculty being responsible for playing CSU on Sunday instead of the prior Thursday.] It is therefore very important for the CU AD to treat coaches more than fairly--which is why Barnett left with his $$$ but little to complain about. Compare that to the Ron Prince saga. Wait and see who KSU gets when grandpa Snyder leaves--it won't be pretty.

All that being said, we've got to sit back and watch Hawk this season and almost certainly next season as well. I haven't written off the Buffs, and I can see a bowl this season if things start working. However, I'm not expecting any wins and know that we could lose to ISU and KSU.

I agree with most of this, but the 5 years is to give the coach a fair chance. The problem here is we may have a second 2-10 or maybe a 3-9 year, which is FChairbanksish. No excuses.

Funny but I am taking a project management class right now at the local junior college and in chapter 2 that is exactly what the authors talk about saying that some PMs don't know what to do so they focus on the process INSTEAD of the team. They focus on charts, lists, graphs and everything except the team and making them successful.

Hawkins is saying we're doing the right things. He's probably got spreadsheets and graphs telling him what a great job he and his staff are doing. No doubt that is what is going on with Bohn as well.

    Interesting..might be.

I don't know what's wrong but I didn't like Hawkins from the beginning so I'm not that disturbed what's going on except there is another football season in the equation that might take a dump...so....if that's all they have is charts and graphs, then probably there is trouble ahead.

I still have faith in Hawk and thinks he's the right man for the job. Unless you tell me a guy like Shanahan is available, I'm not ready to dump Hawk yet (his son, maybe).

I think everyone has a right to be pissed. I'm just going to see how the season goes before I jump on the 'Fire Hawkins' wagon.

I don't think of myself as anti-hawk. I'm more of a pro-CU guy. I just don't happen to understand the decision-making process of our coach.
