Logan was let go by Mullen with a public statement they wanted a full-time employee to be the public face of the program.

Coons resigned as HC at Arvada West after a disappointing season.

These are two of the best in-state programs for developing D1 football talent. This could be an opportunity for CU to build some important relationships where the previous staff (cough, cough, HaLkins) may have made things difficult for the Buffs.

What coaches around the state do you guys think would be good candidates to make the step up to Mullen and A-West? Anyone with Buff connections?

Anyone else think it is curious that Coons resigned right after Logan was let go with Coons saying that the program needed new blood. Logan got his first HS job at A West and maybe would not mind going back there. Not far from his Wheat Ridge roots. I was just wondering (no info) if Coons was clearing an opening for Logan. Coons said he would not mind staying on as the Line coach or some other position.

Thenell won't be around too many more seasons, this was going to be his last and it would be nice to get a foothold on that program again. When was the last BC recruit to play at CU Shane Cook?

Thennell is a Mullen grad and he's only about 50 years old. They might target him.

My sister is best friends with his daughter and he had been saying once she was in college which she is he'd retire but I think he still wants to get a state title, Mullen could be an option.

Thennell is a great coach, and Mullen definitely SHOULD at least look at him. As for the question about the last BC grad to play for CU, to be honest, there haven't been a ton of great BC graduates able to play at CU. Holland was about to commit to CU, but during that recruiting season, we got Orton to commit. When Orton went to Purdue instead, our relationship with Holland already had soured, and he went to Fort Collins (as a BC grad around the time he played, I will state that I'm glad that CU did not want him. He was a complete prick. I know football players aren't always angels, but Holland was sort of on a different level...was not surprised to read an article after CU beat CSU about him staying home with his mom for comfort...).

Since Shane Cook though, there was Thomas Glapion who went to Okie Lite, Ricky Rahne (who was a cool guy) who went to Cornell and wasn't thought enough of to play DI, Holland, and a few others sprinkled here and there that could play at the CSU level. At the CU level though...not a whole many.

I wish more former great players came back to HS's to coach. Rahne I believe is at some college coaching; it'd be great if he came back to CO and coached HS. It doesn't work all the time (e.g. Overland, even though Woolfork didn't go there), but it's great to see people come back to CO and give back to the high schools that helped shape them.

It drives me crazy that CU does not offer a physical education major. It's a big reason why more CU grads aren't coaching in Colorado high schools. Considering the importance of PE to the state's public education system, I think it's wrong that the state's flagship university does not provide a degree in that area.

As an aside, I'm not advocating the PE major for CU because of the positive effect it would have on in-state recruiting through these extra coaches, our increased ability to admit JUCO transfers if we had PE courses, and our ability to lighten the course load for our athletes a bit by having a field of study that's within their wheelhouse (being that they know a lot about physical education from their own athletic training & participation). All of that is secondary. It's all about serving the needs of the state and our children. :wink2:

I think we all saw what you did there even before the second paragraph.
