I never totally got the hatred for Henderson until the article in the Sunday Post. I don't know how he could type...what with giving hand jobs to the USC coaching staff, telling everyone how great they are and how pathetic the Buffs are. #****Henderson.

Yep, he's just taking potshots at the Buffs. It's pretty obvious.

the difference between Kensler's article on the ewes and henderson's was like night and day. I'd bet Henderson wrote 2/3 of his before the game.

The DP's practice of giving so many of its potential readers the finger makes me wonder how they're still afloat.

    **** Henderson.

Hey! Take it easy on him. The ducks lost Saturday. How do you think that makes him feel?

I think I heard they are putting up a pay wall on Dec 2.That should cut readership in half.

Half? Unless that pay wall has an opening for anyone getting home delivery I'd say at least a 90% reduction in readership of online content.

I did not realize they were putting up a paywall. I stopped going to the dp because of their lack of buff material. Will the Daily Camera be doing the same? Aren't they the same company? That would kind of suck because as much as everyone hates on Ringo, myself included, he at least provides a little insight.

    Looks like it will

    .

Sounds like they will allow a certain number of articles free per day/week/month

So while a certain amount of free content can be viewed, they track views. I wonder if that will be done automatically or will require registration.

It doesn't really matter. Newspapers are dying. They don't serve a purpose any more.

Newspapers are worthless in the old format. The business should transition to in-depth journalism only...long stories, lots of research, high quality stuff. More quality, less quantity, less time-sensitive/short news cycle material. Who cares about some dude's opinion (Henderson)? You can get endless "takes" anywhere in the internet.

That's what the magazines went to. Not sure it's enough for a daily. Does a newspaper have to be daily? Would a weekly local paper like you describe be enough for people? I have no idea what the numbers are, but it seems like the Sunday edition is the one that makes most of the money and people most care about. Rest could be online.

Maybe newspapers/magazines kind of morph together somehow. There is probably demand for in-depth stuff at the local level, but not daily. Maybe weekly, as you said. But can you make money doing that? Everything is in flux, but someone is likely to figure it out evenutally.

The thing I've always wondered about is why the newspapers and post office aren't able to work together. There's a lot of infrastructure and overhead associated with home delivery. Post Office already has all that infrastructure (people, vehicles, daily route planning). You'd think both parties would benefit by partnering on newspaper delivery.

I'm just glad they're not putting a paywall up for the Broomfield Enterprise.

I know an 60-something couple who met in journalism school and has spent most of their lives abroad, mostly reporting for the Washington Post. When they moved back to DC a couple years ago, they wouldn't give her any work, so she is teaching at a local college. The husband was a copy editor (correcting the atrocious grammar of the punk reporters) for a couple years until they decided that billet wasn't worth the money, so he retired and does some freelance work. It's sad/funny to hear their opinions about the demise of "the newspaper."

Another 30-something chick I know works for McClatchy News, and has fully embraced the transition from the printed word to the interwebz. Most of her kind of work is bought and printed in local papers because locals papers can't afford to send people to the Middle East or DC, which makes sense.

Local news folks are in a pinch nowadays because of places like AllBuffs and a host of blogs that are seen as being just as objective (a low, low standard) as the papers. I like the passion here, even if some of you (us?) are idots. Nearly gone are the days of a handful of people deciding what "news" is, and how to present it. The more views you are able to read, the better informed you are likely to be: Bias plus bias equals balance. When it comes to Buffs news, this and a couple other sites are my only sources - an I'm good with that.

    **** Henderson.

Pay walls - clear cookies = problem solved. Unless you have some moral issue with "stealing" their content, its just a minor inconvenience.

The Denver Post has a good travel section on Sundays. Well, I should re-state that... I like their geo quiz. The rest of the paper is a festering pile of garbage. I will not shed a single tear when I get the "news" that the Denver Post has shut it's doors for good. I expect that to happen in less than five years.

Agreed. Get a tablet. Much easier. Kindle Fire is a decent and cheap replacement for a newspaper if all you do is media surfing.
