I just got home from watching the game. Here are a few of my observations.

First: I know "there are no moral victories" but the Buffs played hard. Their fans need to keep behind them.

Second: Hawkins displayed lots of class today, beginning before the game when he held his team from taking the field while the Husker Senior football players were being recognized for their 4 years of hard work by the Husker fans. Lots of Husker fans noticed that gesture.:thumbsup:

Third: The Buff Coaches had a game plan and with a few of the big plays thrown in, the team was right in it until the end.

Fourth: The NU FG kicker (who is the real deal) slammed through a 57 yarder with about 1:43 left in the game, which would have taken the steam out of many teams, but it didn't today. The Buffs came out with fire to try to make it happen for them.

Finally: After milling around downtown Lincoln before the game all of the Buff fans I came across were really great. Very friendly, something to be proud of.

Good luck with recruiting, except with the recruits the Huskers are in on!

O.K. enough said, I suppose it is now time to go back to hating the Buffs for the next 365 days.

    GBR

Just to add a few of my impressions:

Most of the Colorado fans were a few rows over to our left, and were delirious when the Buffs went up 14 in just a few plays. I heard a lot of "competing cheers" between them and Husker fans nearby, but mutually respectfull it appeared to us in section 19.

The only thing that surprised me about the Colorado fans was how few were there. Missouri is a bit of a closer road trip I know, but they were in droves all over the stadium as I recall, plus the huge contingent in the visitor's area. I thought for sure that was what we were going to see in the stadium this game too.

Coach Hawkins and the team showed a lot of the three things I like to see in a team: toughness, smart game planning and class.

OK, since we are in a ****ing group hug........ pass me the peace pipe.

This first statement may sound harsh..... The better team won IMO.
here is why I think that, a Callahan coached team would NEVER have pulled off what this team did yesterday. BP has this team believing in themselves and has a staff that will never quit on the players. This team has improved dramatically since game one, but thats where it stops.... BP and crew were out coached in this game IMO, NU wins with better talent, more depth and a lot of luck. NU was deeper and more experienced. CU was thin due to whatever reasons, injuries or what not..... thats for the CU fan to opine.

with that being said - CU and DH had a game plan that put CU in a position to win, a game plan that was executed to perfection. DH and crew obviously know how to break down opposing game film and find and expose weakness, exploit match ups and inexperience not to mention what to expect in critical situations and CU also showed how to manufacture points to give them a chance to win. I was very impressed. It was all over the post game radio show what DH did at the beginning of the game and the whole state knows about the class he and CU displayed.... props to him, CU fans should be proud of that class.

as for the fans.... Every CU fan I saw I asked if they were members of Allbuffs. I did not find any of you but it was a great ice breaker and I had many good quality conversations with many CU fans. We had a cluster of 5 CU fans in our section (student section, way up at the top) and they were mostly quiet but towards the end were getting a little cocky, wanting to high five NU fans when CU had a good play asking "high fives? high fives?....no? why not?"... it was cute for about the first three times he did it. with about 30 seconds to go in the game they were picking up their stuff and heading out so I stopped them and smartassedly (but with a smile) asked "where is my high five?, no high fives?... no?" to which he forced a smile and did high five. it was a good game for both of us to watch with the win in doubt until the last minute of the game. He asked if the final FG was a desperation move and I told him, "obviously yes, but it is well known he makes 60+ yarders in practice and there have been several games where he had the green light to go for 60 yarders due to his pregame warm ups, that is when they game plan situational kicking at the last possible minute with game time conditions making the max distance cut off"..... he looked at me like how do you know that?.... I said "I go to game films with staff members presenting the film"..... "you do what?".... I said, "its Nebraska, what else do we have to do?".... he just about spit pop through his nose and put his hand on my shoulder laughing.

Anyways it was a great game, a great time and the future looks good for both programs. Expect the B12N to get back to normal soon.

    2. "Hey are you on Allbuffs?"
    "Maybe...are you?"
"Yeah man, I'm Waylon Van Smack!"
    "Allbuffs? Never heard of it..."

    3. The paper said Henery (sic IMO) didn't make any FGs at that range in pregame warmups.

    4. Good game. I acknowledge that you ****ers have bragging rights for the next year.

    5. I did notice when nebraska made a big play, it was typically by a senior. When Colorado made a play, it was usually by a frosh. or sophomore. The few exceptions were Nicolas' (Sr.) solid play on the D-line and Geer's (Jr.) TD reception.

I'm fired up for next season.

Yeah. Ok. Our kicker's nickname is 'money' and never misses in practice either. He routinely makes 50+ yarders at practice and before games.

Yesterday's pre-game kicks were not that long. But Henery had been kicking 60 yarders in practices at various times during the season, he stated.

dunno why or what he said about his range after the game. I am going by what his kicking coach said throughout the season about his range and how they determine game time range, it was mentioned morethan once they were comfortable letting either kicker go for 60 if need be. situational kicks to win the game with little or no time left will push what would be considered the norm for range during the same game. they (coaches) know what these kids have for range.

I noticed this as well. I've seen every CU game in Lincoln since 1988 and this was by far the smallest contingent of fans I've seen. I'm sure part of it is the economy and part is the season they've had so far. I was sitting directly opposite of the CU section and could hardly hear them cheering when they did something good. That said, I tailgated with some great Buff fans and had a lot of fun with them. Props to CU for coming out and punching us in the mouth and then continuing to fight even when the momentum was against them. We have bragging rights for a year, but I think the North is gonna get back to the way it should be reeaaaallll soon.
