The body of Paul Wulff‘s coaching career isn’t even in the casket yet, and there’s already a mourner that appears ready to hit on his soon-to-be former school.

Speculation has been burning fast and furious that Wulff will be fired by Washington State at some point shortly after Saturday’s Apple Cup game with Washington. One name that’s already being mentioned in connection to the potential opening is former Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti.

Bellotti just happens to be extremely tight with Wazzu athletic director Bill Moos, so connecting the dots between the two is natural. Asked Tuesday by the Tacoma News Tribune if he would have an interest in a job that has not yet come open, Bellotti said he hadn’t “done that much studying on that job” but did not outright deny any interest.

“Bill and I are very close friends,” the current ESPN college football analyst said of the man who will decide Wulff’s fate. “If we talk about it at some point, that’s one thing, but we haven’t had any discussions. …

If Belotti were to take that job, after turning down CU then the circumstances over here must be way more dire then we are led to believe. Any sensible coach wouldn't turn down a good job and go to a terrible job like Wazzu just because of a friendship.

Maybe Pullman doesn't have a noise ordinance.

Seriously, I think it says more about Belotti than CU. We don't know the exact reasons that he chose not to pursue our coaching position, but he won't go to Wazzu over CU because they have better facilities, support, or $$$. Maybe he's just a Northwest-kind-of-guy who like clouds and rain better than sunshine.

This assumes that Belotti actually turned down the job here. Consider the possibility that he was interviewed, and CU said that this isn't going to work for us, sorry.

You've obviously never been to Pullman. It's on the east side of the mountains and sunny there. It has weather closer to boulder than Eugene.
