Just hearing some of the "rumors" and other talk, I think there has been a big change at the top. It appears to me that the powers that me, Benson, DiStefano, The Regents, and Bohn (not really knowledgeable about the Regents) do not want to go to the Pac 12 and embarass, like they did in the Cal game, our multitudes of West Coast alums. They know that in order to tap into the donations, we have to make the alums proud.

So, what does being fully invested mean? It means being willing to figure out a way to assure security to assistants. It means taking the gloves off in recruiting. It means being willing to pay a competitive salary to a HC. It means upgrading facilities. I think they are willing ane ready to do all of those things.

I, maybe hopeful thinkingly, believe an exciting new age in CU athletics is about to dawn.

And this new age in CU athletics can't commence until Hawk is fired. So let's get on with it.

DBT - you've got it right, but you left out the first step for the admin to turn this around.

Regardless of what it does to the rest of the season, they have to make the statement NOW that they care about going into the PAC 12. That means Hawk has to go now.

Minnesota showed they care, hell, so did North Texas for f***'s sake.

Colorado needs to show they care and for anyone to take them seriously, Hawk needs to go now. Sorry for the repeat from above, I'm a submariner. I'm a card carrying member of the Department of Redundancy Department.:smile2:

There could be two factoids involved here. First, money. Can someone explain the "buyout" situation? does he have to finish the season for this season to drop off the buyout ledger? Is it prorated per game? Second, I think they wanted to give this team every chance to make a bowl game. At this point, we'd have to go 3 - 2. Highly doubtful, but still a chance.

    I agree with you though.

This team has a better chance at making a bowl game without Hawkins leading the way the rest of the season.

i think they are going to let Hawk bury himself. then, the admins can pat themselves on the back for supporting "the right things" last year (perception-wise)....and can then point to the terrible W-L this year. thereby, absolving themselves completely. DiStefano and Benson can wash their hands of the Hawk mess....because Hawk will prove that he doesn't belong at this level based on his "body of work" at CU.

It is simple. Hawkins is getting paid the exact same amount of money regardless of if he finishes the season or not. Just fire him and appoint cabral as interim...then you might give this team a chance at a bowl game. Keeping Hawk here hurts our chances of a bowl game.

For that to happen, they'd have to fire him and keep the remainder of the staff. That would just be kind of ****ty.

My understanding of the buyout is that it does not drop by another million until January 1. Up until then it's $2M no matter when you drop him, so whether now or after the kNU game, it will still be $2M.

That's why he needs to go now rather than later. At least the new coach can come in and assess the staff in action and more importantly, get on the recruiting trail quickly.

EDIT: Gaahh, everyone beat me to it.

Yeah. True dat. I'm wondering, however, if they already have a plan in place or if they are still hedging. They may play the, "We are considering everybody" game and go through a few token interviews. Who knows?
