RUSHING RUSHING RUSHING RUSHING RUSHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

yOU CAN'T HAVE -27 YARDS RUSHING AND EXPECT TO WIN AGAINST ANYBODY!:sad2:

That is it plain and simple. That is uncalled for. Our O-line sucks! Uour rushing game sucks. It's the reason we lost last night and it's the reason we lost against ASU. We need a balanced offense with a rushing attack. OU is just gonna throtle us and abuse Cody.

The second thing is once again not capitolizing. We had a nice 8 minute 15 play drive that stalled and resulted in a missed FG early in the game. BEAUTIFUL DRIVE! DISSAPOINTING FINISH! You have to finish that stuff!

This is a young team and things will get better, but folks, we are seeing growing pains right now.

WE NEED THAT RUSHING ATTACK! WE NEED DARRELL SCOTT AND AN EXPERIENCED O-LINE!

I would also say our special teams need to improve. The difference in starting field position for each team was pretty startling (or at least it seemed like it at the game).

Yes, but not as much as the rushing game hurt us.

Here are the stats, look at these other than the rushing and you think WTF, how did we lose?:wow:

First Downs: CU 21 FSU 10
    Rushing: CU -27 FSU 95
    Passing:CU 306 FSU 126
    Total O: CU 279 FSU 221
    Possesion: CU 34:08 FSU 25:52

leash, i love you, but if you use the word "sucks" in reference to an oline that 1) is improving, 2) that we already knew was going to experience growing pains then i am going to have to hit you in the head with a natty lite.

I would totally agree on these points except that I'd make you 2nd point #1. Per your other post where we got the better of FSU in the stats, yet still lose by 10 and only lose the turnover battle by 2, you either got demolished in special teams or simply failed to cash in on your opportunities, which is what happened to CU. Like Woelk said in his column, the margin of error for this team is way too small to have wasted opportunities and still expect to beat a good team.

The lack of a rushing is certainly a huge problem also and I'm not trying to diminish that, especially with an experienced QB.

I thought the OL played pretty well. Allowing FSU to only get 2 sacks was impressive.

The rushing stats were a little bit skewed because we had Hawkins two sacks and the two center/QB exchange mistakes count against the rushing stats.

Add to that the fact that the team's best RB is hurt, and its easy to see why the Buffs didn't do much with the running game.

The fsu kicker had a frigging leg. Eb has got to make those kicks. I'm standing behind him. Bad night. He gets another shot, in my mind.

I expected the Buffs to lose the game-- and honestly, it was much more competitive and close than I thought it was going to be.

I think everybody is a bit confused as to what the Buffs' offense needs to do to improve. Yes, we'd like to see an improved running game- but do we have an RB who can make it improve (are you listening, nephew).

I would almost be tempted to have the Buffs go with 4 wide receivers every play and operate out of the shotgun.

We need to get SOME rushing yards, but I was most disappointed by special teams.

Their kicking team was all over our returners...we got 0 on returns, basically...they need some help right now.

Will Hawkins play all season, or do you eventually see Nelson stepping in?

The lack of a rushing game is rather hurting. I remember these feelings all to well from the days of Elway when we never had a rushing game.

Why? I don't think that Hawkins is the issue at all. What do you see Nelson doing different?

I think what would make a difference at Q would be a big 6'3" 220-230 lbs moble guy who is a running threat (Vince Young or Jake Locker) - I don't know if CU has anyone like that on the roster now. How did Colt Brennan get out of Boulder - or is it too ugly to relive??

Yeah, Vince Young would be nice. Not very realistic, but nice.

I'm note understanding any criticism of Cody, they guy was the brightest spot on our offense Saturday. He easily demonstrated sufficient arm strength and his timing routes were spot on, particularly on the 8-15 yard outs.

Eberhart must make those field goals, you could feel the air leave the balloon after each.

Our punt return teams did not do a bad job blocking. FSU was far faster than us and the returners need to learn to get their asses up field instead of dancing and trying to dodge around the coverage. They aren't fast enough to go around the FSU coverage, OU will be the same.

I am mystified why we can pass block so well and not run block. I thought the protection was very good considering FSU knew we weren't going to run in the 2nd half.

:yeahthat: during the hawaii bowl, they did a piece on it either prior to the game, or during halftime. i would guess that a google search would help you unearth the particulars.

Sorry, I will use the word sucks when you have -27 yards rushing, yes I already know about the sacks and fumbled nsaps thattook it away more. Two weeks in a row you can't generate anything on the ground sucks. It will get better though, it's growing pains.

of course it is growing pains. because it is growing pains, a reasonable person would not expect the world when playing faster talent.

it might also prompt them to look at the situation with a little perspective and refrain from being overly critical.

when we have all the backs in the world, a stoudt line, and a sharp qb, and we do not deliver, you can use the word "sucks", imo.

do so before then, and i am going to natty lite your ass. :smile2:

I am not knocking Cody - I am want him to be successful as he is a local and a class act - a great person to represent CU. What I meant was if you don't have a break out back, a Q who is a running threat helps the running game. Some of these big fast quarterbacks - Locker and the guy from Central Florida can are big enough and fast enough to elude and break tackles - and if not make even a linebacker pay on a hit. Cody has incredible knowledge and skills - but unless I missed it (and I may have) I don't see him as a break out running threat.

He doesn't need to be a running threat. We need to have a WR group that can catch the balls that he keeps placing right in their hands. If we get them to start catching most of those balls (I am thinking use the glue that they used on the WR in 'The Replacements'), then the other teams will have to back the d-backs out of the box and that will help open up the running game.

I don't see how a mobile QB opens up the running game, but I'm not an expert on football strategy.

If a QB drops back to pass and ends up scrambling, that will not help the running game. If we start running option, that might help, but I don't see that happening.

What does not help the running game, however, are all the slow developing running plays. The problem with draws or very deep hand offs is that the Oline needs to sustain blocks longer. They have yet to prove they can do that.

My point is that it doesn't matter. Unless they are gonna change the offensive scheme, a mobile QB doesn't buy us anything. The running game will get better when the OL does and not a minute sooner.

To FlatironsBuffy's point. I didn't get the impression that ASU or FSU stacked the box against the run. They were able to handle the run with the DL and LB just fine. Not that I want the receivers to continue dropping passes.

I guess I was going off Hawk's comments at halftime of one of the games where he said that everone was playing close to the line and they needed to get them backed off. The O-L certainly has more issues than we thought; and tis team cannot get alot better until they gel and improve. But I still see alot of good stuff. Last year I just felt that there was no way we would see the team improve greatly over the season, but now I do see that. We have lost to ASu and FSU, while not great teams, they are good teams. Last year we were losing to Montana State. Big diff to me.
