Janssens/Ormeno Claim Doubles Crown At CU Invitational

LONGMONT – The first day of action at the CU Invitational saw the home team University of Colorado women’s tennis team claim a doubles championship.

Senior Winde Janssens and freshman Nuria Ormeno Ruiz defeated University of Denver’s Kathryn Hughes and Maureen Slattery, 6-1 in the final match Friday evening at the Longmont Athletic Club. The newly formed duo won its first three career matches together in order to take home the title.

“For our first day of competition this year it was good because we really saw some great things from the team, and also where we need to contine to improve,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “Nuria and Winde had a great start to the year and really showed solid play.”
