Cutler is diabetic as are a number of other well known athletes. Jay Leeuwenburg, former Buff and NFL player is diabetic so is Dominique Wilkins who was an NBA all-star a bunch of times. There is a whole list of other athletes as well.

He will have to be very carefull with his diet and his blood sugar levels but for him it is a good thing he is a Buff. He will have access to the CU sports medicine staff who can consult with the staff at the CU med school which has some people on the very cutting edge of treatment.

This may have been part of why Adams didn't step up and play like we had hoped this year. It would have effected his energy, his conditioning, etc. He seems to have come on some in the last part of the year, hopefully next year he will provide us some tough minutes off the bench both defensively and with some scoring.

    Good luck to him.

Yeah. This has been a big deal all year. It's really shaken his confidence and made it hard for him to work his way back into things after the concussion with the practice reps he needed.

I honestly believe that he's turning the corner as he starts to figure out his body and his routines. I'm looking for Jeremy to get a lot of work in on his shot this summer to get his stroke back, improve his ball handling, and be a guy for us next year who can give us 10-15 minutes a night with strong defense and an ability to pick us up with some scoring some games.

It's going to be a key to how successful we are in 2012-13.

Wow, that explains a lot. The transition he went through and adjusting tomhoops atnthe d1 level would be a lt for anybody let alone the diabetes.

    How didn't we nitice this?

After initially using insulin injections shortly after his diagnosis, Adams now depends on an insulin pump. Tashiro checks Adams' blood sugar level before games, and depending on that reading, would recheck it "every 20 to 30 minutes during a two-hour game." If necessary, though, a pin-prick check will be done at every media timeout during a game.

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. My cousin is type 1, as well as a guy I played high school and AAU ball with. It's a vvery difficult adjustment, it takes time, but once you've adjusted your lifestyle it becomes more and more normal and easier to play with. I expect him to help contribute even more in his last two years here. Go get em Jeremy.

Honestly, with the help he will get from the university, I can see him turning a corner next year. He has the potential, he has the athleticism.

The numbers don't show it, but I thought he looked stronger and more assertive in the last two games. He may be getting a handle on it basketball wise. Either way, sending prayers to Jeremy - tough kid.

I remember watching him shoot before one of his first games, the guy went all the way around the arc a few times and never missed. He probably took 30 shots and maybe missed 2 or 3. He seemed to have a pretty good stroke, but I have noticed that he seemed to have a hard time setting his feet during games (as in shoot around you have all the time in the world to set up). But watching him lately, I feel that he is setting his feet a little better as he catches the ball, I just dont think he has the confidence back yet, be that because of diabeties or being the first year, I expect him to show a lot more in the upcoming years.

i was under the impression that he had been dealing with this for a whole and it was not some recent occurrence...this season makes a lot more sense in that context

Now I feel like an *****. Jeremy is definitely a tough kid and I apologize for yelling at the TV all those times. I had to google insulin pump, that thing is high tech, fits it your pocket and only Neuheisels you once.
