At least I'm in good company (according to many on this board, that is). He just said he really believes in Hawkins and thinks he will turn it around. He also talked about reThat puts him in the same category as Chad Brown who said the same thing. I can't remember who posted that "all the former Buffs hate Hawkins", but that is clearly not the case.

Sorry, I just could not resist posting this after listening to Jeremy.

    This is what he said:

Lombardi: "What do they need to get over the top?"

Jeremy: "Well, their backs are clearly against the wall. You know, Dan Hawkins was given another year and I'm a big fan of his. I think he's going to come through. But, you know, it was a hard program. I mean, you look at the history, you look at what they went through, umm, with the scandal and all this bad publicity and losing recruits and losing scholarships. I mean, you know, the challenges (for Hawkins) were great, but, you know, I have full confidence that that program, uhh, they have a great athletic director, I think a great head coach and this is it, this is the year for them to define their program and I think the kids are going to work really hard."

Lombardi: "Why do you believe in Hawk?"

Jeremy: "I believe its the mentality, the philosophy. I mean, he has this warrior mentality. I remember seeing a feature on him when I was playing at CU on ESPN. He was at Boise State and thats something I've always been drawn to. Its like that Michael Jordan philosophy, that zen philosophy and, umm, its blocking out all those distractions all, you know, that go along with high competitive athletics and, you know, believeing in this one heartbeat. I think he's got that and I think if the kids just buy into what he's doing, what he's trying to build, I think he'll be very successful."

Now, I'm not into this "zen" stuff, but, hey, whatever.

Dan Hawkins is not going to be successful at CU. Period.

Hey, don't tell me, tell Jeremy Bloom and Chad Brown.

To me, the point is that guys who actually played at a high level have a totally different perspective than the good old message board hacks. Even then, some of the former Buffs hate Hawkins and some believe in him.

    I hope Bloom's right.

Be great if we had a good season next year and Hawkins built a consistent winner from this point on. Hard to be confident of that, though.

If he somehow pulled it off, at least I've got no worries that he'll run a clean program or that he'll recruit well when he's got some on-field success to sell.

Dude, do you listen to DMac and Al on the Fan? Al's not exactly the most coherent chap on the block...

I listened to him after the Okie State loss and the day Talkins was brought back (wed I think before the Nebraska game).. D-Mac is a douche bag but everything that Alfred said was right on those two days. Perfect time for a big upset win on the road against backup QB's and Hawk proved against Okie State that he can't get it done by blowing a big lead..

Alfred clearly didn't support retaining Hawkins. Neither did Klatt or a number of other guys who were pretty vocal about it.

But DBT acknowledged that some ex-players hate Hawkins. So I don't know what the argument is. No one seems to be arguing with what DBT said about how some ex-players believe in Hawkins.

Nobody (?) said Hawkins wasn't likable - the problem is the proof of his coaching ability: 16-33.

With all due respect to Jeremy Bloom, how many CU games has he seen the last four years? Did he see the CSU game this year? Did he see the Toledo game? Iowa State? Kansas State? Missouri?

I love Bloom, but lets be honest. I doubt he would even be on the punt return team under Hawkins.

I love Bloom, but when asked about Hawk he referenced an ESPN segment from his Boise days - has he ever met the guy? To me this was a former Buff just trying to support the program and not stoke the fire.

My respect for DBT is so great that I contacted Jeremy Bloom's foundation that grants wishes to the elderly.

I told him about how this demented old fart from Arvada is resigned to wearing pink suits and championing Dan Hawkins like some modern day Don Quixote. "JB", I said. "If you want to warm an old man's heart, just come out and say something nice about Coach Hawkins."

Jeremy is good to his word, and a thread was born.

    DBT...you are welcome.

I'll be honest. I thought Jeremy was a bit over the top in his defense of Hawkins. As for Al, he's a bit over the top the other way and, as a matter of fact, did a lot of flip flopping throughout the year. Klatt is great, but he also is trying to make a name for himself, I think.

Anyway, I think all of us need to lighten up a bit and thought it would be kind of fun to post JB's take.

Yes, we all know that you and Bloom really believe in Hawkins. You believe in 4 consecutive losing seasons.

    I do not.

I'm just glad Alfred, Chad, Jeremy and Joel still care enough to comment. At least they are all on the same side in that they want to see CU win.

I watched this last night too. Before I laud or condemn Bloom's position on this, I would really like to know what his specific perspective is. Is he close in any way to the program anymore? Has he actually met with Hawkin's (and I mean in more than a 5 second handshake setting)? Does he still have relatively unfettered access to the Dal Ward center and does he use that access? Or is he basing all his opinion off of media sound bites? If it's all based on Bloom's personal and relatively in-depth experience close to the man/program, then I'll respect his opinion but disagree with it. Otherwise I'll be a bit more scornful....

Good questions. I have no idea. He's pretty far removed, I'd think. At the same time, I don't know how close Al and Joel are to what's going on either. I don't think either one of them really talk to the players as far as I can tell.

That Bloom may be our next WR coach.

and....flush the RIDDLER (from ST that is since the Riddler won't be leaving Boulder anytime soon)

All the respect to Bloom, but I think he would be a very poor choice. Not even sure he has his degree anyway.

    You are right, sir.

My settings are 15 per page and I must have missed that when it went to Page 2. Credit to buffaholic if it ends up being a decent rumor or anyone gets a chuckle out of it.

EDIT: Just found in the Forum Settings where I can change that to 40 posts per page. Much better.

Nothing against Jeremy, but I'd rather have Skyler Fulton as the WR coach. Has Bloom ever even been a coach?

I said he'd be a good candidate, not who I would choose. Honestly, the guy I really want on the staff eventually is Mike Moshchetti. Think he would be good here. We need somebody to fill it, what ever happened with Cedric Cormier? He somebody that might be a possibility?

WTF does that have to do with anything? Chad played for mac, bloom played 2 years for barnett. Mac endorsed hawk, and his record is still 16-33. Your grasping at straws as usual.
