Mike MacIntyre helped put this program back on its feet, but Jim Leavitt is the man to make it jump. This year, my family did the most cliche Father's Day activity possible, a special dinner and a movie. After some sausage (Barsch is a German name from a very German family, fortunately), we had to decide between Mad Max or Inside Out. While very much overhyped (best Pixar movie ever?...

Entertaining article. Is it bad that I'm already concerned about losing him to another P5 program in need of a Head Coach after just one year in Boulder?

that is a good thing, it means we have won 6 games, gone to a bowl, and improved massively on defense.

Bowl would take 7 wins this year, which means even more improvement would be shown.

Obviously, it's a good problem to have and means you're doing something right as a program. Just worried that any momentum we gain from his recruiting/coaching this year could be quickly lost.

I don't think it would take a drastic defensive improvement for him to get an offer. College football saw what he did at USF and everybody knows his departure wasn't due to poor coaching. CU is giving him a 2nd chance at the collegiate level and that's all it could take for another program to feel comfortable offering a HC position.

Didn't he sign a 2 year deal? I know nothing about it, I guess it depends on options in the contract? Unless things go horribly wrong, and CU has the option, I wouldn't let him talk to other teams. But like I said, I don't know much about how this works in college nor about the specifics of the contract. Any one on here with real insights?

Contracts don't mean anything when it comes to college coaches. There are usually buyouts involved to discourage other programs from talking to various HCs and Coordinators, but if a P5 program wants Leavitt as their HC, it would come down to Leavitt choosing to stay/go, not whether CU allows him to go.

I believe this is leavitts last job. He's almost like Walton when it comes to enjoying scenery. Leavitts has fallen in love with Boulder, it's more likely he takes over when Mac leaves for the SEC.

This is where leadership commitment comes into play. MacIntyre and RG can build a winning team.

Whether or not their success makes CU Boulder just a stepping stone to bigger and better things, or a destination job is entirely dependent upon how much CU leadership and Buff supporters truly value winning and hanging on to winning coaches.

It takes the entire CU community, with leadership from the President and Regents, to transform CU from a place where coaching careers go to die to a destination job that is capable of attracting and retaining the best coaches in the country.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. The Buffs gotta win a few conference games and earn bowl eligibility under HCMM and DCJL. Then we can talk about retention. If CU has another season like the last, then these coaches may feel more of a push than a pull when it comes to leaving Boulder.

I think I've read that he has a hefty buy out unless it's to take another ahead Head Coaching position. Then it's zero.

I agree he must have seen something here to come when he probably had a lot of other options both in College and the Pros.

he was an effin' good hire so far.

    gotta deliver Ws.

and, i'll take him leaving-- The original coach Mac lost assistants left and right: the key is hiring great replacements. Saban, despite being a whining lil' d-bag lately, is arguably the best hc in the country and he has to deal with changing out assistants too. **** happens.

    WIN WIN WIN

It is interesting that coach Mac II seems to look to the nfl when hiring coaches. I tend to think that nfl coaches are re energized after being out of college football for a little because the rumor is recruiting really wears out college coaches.
