He's doing the color for the ISU/UNI game but did talk a little about CU and the B12.

He was pretty harsh on Hawk (rightfully so IMO) and thought that CU was the worst team in the B12 north. He said if there were a "toilet bowl" game in the B12 north, it'd be the CU/KU game. He was praising ISU and Paul Rhoades (I agree with him here, I think the guy is a helluva a coach, getting a bowl win out that squad was nothing short of miraculous) and thought they'd be pretty good.

He wasn't on to talk CU, but he was showing no love to CU. He did express how painful it's been to watch CU have 4 consecutive losing seasons.

Man, I honestly like Joel, but he is really pissing me off. I'm not sure if he believes this **** or if he's just trying to create a reputation.

I think he's trying to establish that he is not biased.

I'm with Joel. He may be trying to stir the pot a bit, but his points are valid, and he has done more for CU than you and me could ever hope to, and he has guided us to more wins than Hawk ever has. He bleeds black and gold. So he has a right to call it as he sees it.

Given the past 4 years, I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that he might actually believe CU is just not very good at this point.

Very true, but funny how him and his old coach have been pretty negative about the program when they're in another state.

JK has an opinion. His opinion is that CU has gone downhill and DH is the man driving the bobsled to CFB irrelevancy. There are facts that support that view. JK is not offbase and his opinion is valid. Yo may not agree, but it is far from a sensationalist viewpoint staring down a 16-33 W/L mark.

LSU fans and people that follow it say that program is doomed, yet Miles has won a championship there.

Let's not think that people are out to get Hawk, when it's clear he has to dig himself out of his own grave. He has his detractors, including many on this board, but until he puts 40 on CSU and goes 4-0 out of conference (Hawk has NEVER won 4 straight games btw) he's going to have to put up with them. Enthusiasm around the program was at a high when he first came in and even after his 6-7 campaign. It's up to him to shut his critics up. We all want to see him succeed, but everything points to us not winning the North or being a contender.

Looking at our wins last year we won against Wyoming in convincing fashion. Lost to a CSU team that barely beat Weber St and didn't win anything after it. Were 1 play away from losing to KU at the end of the game. Got blown out by Toledo and left in his starting QB son to finish out the game against the Toledo SCRUBS; Cody even had a concussion after that game when it was clear we had no freaking shot to win. We lost to OSU even after they had a horrible QB and turned the ball over, what 4 times? We've had how many punts/kickoffs go the distance against us in Hawk's tenure? He can start proving everyone wrong on Saturday. Saturday.

But here is what I don't get. He says CU is the WORST team in the north. Now, I know I'm biased, but I think the evidence is that CU is very underrated. Here's another thing. Joel talked on his radio show that "With my radio schedule, its really hard for me to get up to watch a practice, but I'm going to try to get up to one." Well, he never "got up to one." So, he hasn't even seen a practice and he is announcing to an audience in Iowa that CU is.....wait! It just occurred to me!!!! Joel is totally ****ing with Iowa St. fans! He KNOWS CU is going to kick ISU's ass but he does not want to let on to them how good CU will be! Damn, Joel! Good job my man!!

Actually, I think Joel despises Hawk for "taking down the Mac quote." But CJ told Joel that it was not Hawk, it was the administration that was trying to begin with a clean slate by erasing the past. Now, if that is true, that is super douchey.

I was attending CU for Klatt's run at QB, and yes those teams were better then last year, but not by that much. Sure we won more games, but I still remember walking out of the Washington St. game at halftime down by four touchdowns as fans chanted F Phil Jackson! (the corner who I watched get burned for more touchdowns than anyone else I've ever seen). Klatt also struggled horribly in big games, especially Nebraska. He is just another reason I hope we turn it around this year. Can't wait to have to hear him kiss Hawkins toes on the air.

Geez. JK led trams were better then what we've seen the past few seasons but they weren't THAT good. Ask JK how many ranked teams he beat in his Jr and Sr seasons. I guess he can thump his chest though since he backed into his last north title. My take is JK is just blasting Hawk because of the 'burned to the ground' comment.

With the amount of smack Joel talks about Hawkins, etc. I am not sure he is welcome at a practice. I wonder sometimes if he really doesn't have time or if he is scared to go up there.

Until CU proves different, why wouldn't they be picked to finish last in the North? We have the worst coach out of all the North teams. I think JK's despises Hawk, because since Hawk's arrival he has lost way more games than he has won, and has never taken responsibility for the loses, but blamed everyone that was at CU prior to his arrival.

I hate to be negative but what evidence? Honestly the past two years I haven't been impressed by anything done on the field... sure Hawk can talk up how great the team practiced all he wants, but it doesn't mean anything until the lights come on during gametime. My honest belief this year... CSU has no business being anywhere near CU, and if the Buffs don't win easily by at least 28 points, its going to be a very long year.

Exactly. DBT, how would you feel if the new guy came in and said everything you had done had caused the place to be "burned to the ground"? I remember Joel being an absolutely amazing defender and spokesman of CU Football when it was under constant attack by the media and community during the "scandal". He has a ton of credibility in my book.

One viewpoint says that JK is one unhappy alumni who has had to put up with watching CU have four consecutive losing seasons and it's the truth. It's put up or shut up time for Hawkins and his gang.

Having the depth and exprience should help this Buffs this year.

As being the worst North school, I don't think that is the case because I think KU is that team. KSU and ISU aren't world beaters. Mizzou lost their RB for the season and the Corn hasn't named a QB yet...that tells me the Corn might not be ready for prime time this year. The only surefire loss I see for the Buffs in the Big 12 is the game in Norman. BU and TT are at home...what's not to like about this season?

CU has two first team Big XII lineman plus a center who is on the short list for the Remington for best center. CU has a GREATLY improved wide receiver corps and at least two very good tight ends. We have two veteran tailbacks, although they are small. And Tyler Hansen is very underrated. We have one of the best defensive backfields in the Big XII, solid linebackers and a very good, though smallish DLine. We have two new coaches who look to be very solid. We have an offensive coordinator who had only 4 weeks to implement his system going into last year and now has had a full year to get his system in place. I think there are a **** load of reasons to argue that CU is going to be a helluva lot better than expected. And, as has been posted, Phil Steele and Mel Kiper bith agree. The ones who are dissing CU are the morons who only look at the previous year's records and not at the talent level of the team.

If csu beats or is close to us tomorrow, I will be on board 100% with dumping Hawkins immediately. I'd bring Mac in and give him three weeks to get something in place before the Big XII season.

I hope you're right, DBT, but since pretty much all of that talent was on the team last year, I think it's a bit unfair to call people morons for taking last years record into account in figuring out what to expect this year. I love Solder, Miller and Stevens' talent. But that doesn't change the fact that the offensive line didn't exactly set the world on fire last year. Hopefully they've ironed out those issues, but at this point I want to see that on the field. Speedy and Lock are exciting running backs, but if those OL issues aren't ironed out, they'll be giving us some really exciting 2 yard gains, Barry Sanders style. I agree that Tyler is underrated, and I'm anxious to see what he can do with a full season as the unquestioned starter. But again, at this point, I have to see that happen on the field before I believe it. I also agree with you about the defensive talent, but again have to point out that those guys were on the field last year too. Once I see the improvement on the field, I'll be excited about it. Until then, I'm not going to pretend this was not a 3-9 team last year. If that makes me a moron, so be it....

Look, CU, last year, was a predominately freshmen/sophomore laden team. This year, they are much more mature. Look at the changes, for instance, that Bakhtiari has made. He's put on something like 50 lbs. It is not uncommon at all for teams to greatly improve quickly from one year to the next as their players gain experience and physical maturity. Even Scotty McNight has gotten bigger, stronger, and faster than he was last year.

The O line showed a great deal of improvement against Okie St. and the vaunted 'braska DLine. I think they were just beginning to click at the end of the year. That looks, so far, like it has carried over to this year. Last year, we basically had one experienced WR until just toward the end of the year when Simas came on. You could see the improvement in the offense when Simas came on. Simas is gone, but with the inculsion of Clemons, Patterson, Richardson and the greatly improved, by all reports, Jefferson, our receiveing corps is light years beyond where they were at the start of the year last year.

Hawkins had better not screw this up!

Freshman and sophomore laden team? Did we watch the same CU team last year? Bonsu, Pericak, Givens. That;s it for freshmen who played any significant amount. There were a lot of Sophomores, but c'mon.

I actually agree with DBT here, and these are the reasons I picked an 8-win regular season. I understand Junc what you're saying that other then the WR corps, these are the same players from last year, but keep in mind that Solder is the only one on the OL who started all 12 games at the same position. Also throw in there that Kasa is back after missing most of the season and Major was coming his ACL and never got going last year. Plus the schedule is a big part of my reasoning also, and it's not hard to find 6 wins on this schedule, and then with all the factors listed I really believe we can get 2 more wins beyond that to make it 8 wins. And in college football don't ever discard the intangibles, and this team is eager and hungry to prove most people wrong.

But this is not an endorsement of Hawkins on my part because I believe that we win 8 games in spite of him, not because of him.

I have no difficulty with anything Joel Klatt or Alfred Williams have said on broadcasts or anything they have done that I have heard about. I think they are good guys and sincere Buffs-for-Life.
