Kipp Finishes Track Season At World Championships

Moscow – University of Colorado senior Shalaya Kipp recorded a ninth-place finish in her heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the preliminary rounds of the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Kipp finished in 9:45.97, just over four seconds from the last time qualifying spot for the finals (9:42.19). Kenya took the top two positions in the section with Milcah Chemos Cheywa crossing the finish first in 9:36.16 and Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi just behind in 9:36.19. Kipp finished in a very tight pack of runners who took 7-8-9. Algeria’s Amina Bettiche was seventh (9:45.50) and Finland’s Sandra Eriksson was eighth (9:45.57).

Former Buff Dathan Ritzenhein hit the track later in the day in the finals of the 10,000-meter run, finishing 10[SUP]th[/SUP] with a season-best time of 27:37.90.


The championships continue through August 18. CU volunteer assistant coach Jenny Simpson starts her title defense in the 1,500 on Sunday at 12:30 a.m. MT (10:30 a.m. Moscow time).
