Kritza, Buffs Foresee Bright Future For CU Volleyball

BOULDER � There is tension in the media room inside the Coors Event Center after the University of Colorado volleyball team finishes its game. The Buffaloes have just lost to top-ranked Stanford University in a thrilling five-set match and junior setter Nicole Edelman looks visibly disappointed with the result. Despite the loss, the Buffs have established themselves as a competitive team in the Pac-12 Conference. But that change didn’t happen overnight; it has been an arduous six-year process under head coach Liz Kritza.

“When I got here, there weren’t many marquee elite players, as far as elite athletes who chose to come to CU over perennial top 10, top 5, top 15 programs”, Kritza recalls. “That was something that I thought I could change was that we had a lot of the pieces in place and to go out and get those kids you just have to outwork everybody else. So that’s probably the biggest change in the program.”
