Don't blame them. Wow ASU hung 62 in them last night? Who's the interim coach?
Rumor is Pat Hayden was at Bama game last night.
Just saw that... I think I heard that they fired him on the plane.
Wow! We all knew it was coming bu that is big news
I wish they had let it spiral out of control a bit longer, but then donors with deep pockets can probably motivate change.
hiring Kiffin was almost as dumb as us hiring Embree.
same logic, dumb logic.
ESPN was saying that Jack del Rio and Herm Edwards were the early favorites for the job.
You would think that Shaw and Sarkisian would be 2 names on their list.
Damn. I was hoping the train wreck would last all season!
Why couldn't they have waited longer...was enjoying the high and mighty USC look like garbage
I would expect them to continue the NFL head coach route.
At least he has the trophy wife. For now.
Shaw is a Stanford alum and they have plenty of donor money to keep him happy - I'm not sure why he would leave for USC or anywhere else really.
The Inside USC Twitter account has a pretty interesting account of the whole thing, which has the feeling more of a mob hit than a modern corporate termination of employment. I have done my best to paste it all in here, but formatting may be an issue. Posts are in reverse chronological order (most recent on top):
One person on #USC team bus remarked, ``I think they fired our boy'' after Lane Kiffin pulled off by Pat Haden
Who had today in the Lane Kiffin firing pool? #USC
I spoke to #USC administrator at halftime of ASU game. He didn't know at time of Lane Kiffin's imminent firing
I've heard Pete Carroll said in offseason: ``(Kiffin) couldn't win with Barkley, Marqise Lee or Robert Woods, he won't win (in 2013).'' #USC
The room inside Arizona State locker room where #USC A.D. Pat Haden decided to fire Lane Kiffin is about 6-feet-by-6 feet wide
Current #USC coaching candidates: 1. James Franklin (Vandy), 2. Jeff Fisher (Rams), 3. Jack Del Rio, 4. Chris Petersen (Boise)
John Robinson fired by #USC with message on answering machine in 1997. Lane Kiffin fired after pulled off team bus at LAX in 2013
Off topic, #USC WR Marqise Lee has a ``severely sprained knee.''
I heard Lane Kiffin left his bag on team bus because he thought his meeting with Pat Haden would be brief and routine matter #USC
Remember Pat Haden's July video called Lane Kiffin ``a dynamic playcaller.'' #USC
Several #USC players I've spoken to are not unhappy with firing of Lane Kiffin
#USC A.D. Pat Haden met with advisers during Arizona State's 28-0 run in third quarter and that's when decision made to fire Lane Kiffin
#USC team does not have any official meetings today. Players usually show up for rehab, etc. This could change
#USC president Max Nikias was also at Arizona State game. I spoke to him before game
#USC A.D. Pat Haden met with advisers in tiny room during third quarter of ASU loss. This where decision was made to fire Lane Kiffin
To recap, Lane Kiffin pulled of team bus outside LAX private terminal and fired. Team went back to #USC without him
Here is what happened: A.D. Pat Haden and three administrators including J.K. McKay left game and huddled in small room during 3rd Q #USC
I'm told the decision to fire Lane Kiffin was made during the third quarter of the loss to Arizona State #USC
If you want specifics, Lane Kiffin was fired right outside Landmark Aviation terminal at LAX #USC
Pat Haden, J.K. McKay, Steve Lopes, Mark Jackson (#USC administrators) met with Lane Kiffin at LAX parking lot to dismiss him
I'm told Lane Kiffin told the bus to wait but then #USC administrators told it to go back to campus without him
Lane Kiffin got pulled off the team bus at Los Angeles International Airport by Pat Haden when he was fired #USC
Remember Pat Haden has a such firm look at coaching candidates all the time so he's already got lots of info I'm sure #USC
#USC firing Lane Kiffin makes for some awkward timing contacting other schools to speak to head coach
Boise State coach Chris Petersen likely to also be contacted #USC
Looks like scholarship limitations were not the handicap I was told so many times by #USC officials this week
#USC Remember this video in support of Lane Kiffin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VXv8ob7OyE&&hq_e=el&hq_m=500914&hq_l=11&hq_v=cb8605f839 …
The usual suspects will also get mentioned today (Jeff Fisher, Jack Del Rio) as Lane Kiffin replacements #USC
I heard over summer that Vanderbilt's James Franklin was getting lots of consideration #USC
Pat Haden now fired 2 coaches (Lane Kiffin, Kevin O'Neill) in middle of season. I heard he fired O'Neill after players complained #USC
My first reaction to timing of this dismissal is Pat Haden thought the team gave up or heard negative comments from players re Kiffin #USC
Food for thought: would he be willing to accept a job as a special teams coach at CU if the position became available? He is probably one of those guys that can be a good assistant coach, but totally sucks as a head coach.
I don't find Lane Kiffin likable as a person (insomuch as I know him), which is exactly why I would support him as our special teams coach.
Next CSU head coach? We can dream.
Why the hell are they discussing replacements? Not like any of the candidates they are looking at are going to get up and leave their jobs midseason. There will have to be a temporary replacement.
Sackman called it. Guessing they will be a bit more focused when they come to Folsom. Hoping for a hot mess though.
While I realize he needed to be fired for Haden to keep his job, I always thought that Kiffen would ride out the rest of the sanctions before they attempted to hire a big name coach. I suspect they will just have to give an offensive or defensive coordinator a temporary HC job until the season is over. Although I doubt that will stop USC from trying to throw a huge amount of cash at some coach within the next week.
Jack Del Rio please. He is a horrible coach plus he is lazy, won't put in the hours required to be a coach at that level. Also his teams commit lots if dumb over emotional penalties.
If we want to maintain a fantasy about upsetting SC the timing is good. Teams usually get a temporary boost after a firing but after a few week the players realize that they are playing for a coach who won't be there next year and that this year is already done or the coach wouldn't have been fired.
SC has a lot of prima dona kids who may turn into attitude or head cases by the time we get them.
Kiffin has to be one of the biggest douches around.
So they just left him in Tempe with no bags?
I don't know how much this helps their season. A chunk of their team has already given up.
James Franklin would be a great hire for the rest of the PAC-12.
Douche way to fire him by usc
Any discussions about a replacement coach are for next year, not this year. Orgeron will likely be named the interim coach (if he hasn't already) for the remainder of this season.
