My wife asked me if I wanted to go to the nebraska game this year.

Okay, I asked her if I could go, and then she looked up ticket prices and said if I thought I could get this done on an $1100 budget than go for it, but it would be my Christmas and Birthday gifts this year.

So what do you guys/gals think.

Here are the reasons to go:
-A chance to watch CU football live this season. I'll miss next season too, since I'll be in Afghanistan for the football season.

-The last Big 12 game for nebraska, and possibly for CU. The end of an era/pseudo rivalry. While CU isn't really projected to be in that game, on September first, I'd like to believe (hope) that we could spoil their departure.

    Reasons not to go:

-I've been to lincoln. I'd hate to waste a rare trip to the U.S. on that ****hole. And while the Memorial Stadium Sea of Red experience is impressive on some levels, it still looks like a Soviet Era inspired chunk of concrete in the middle of the wind swept prairie. Plus last time I attended a game there, visitors were given ****ty seats.

-I was hoping for a pair of new waders for Christmas and a new reel to compliment my bamboo rod for my birthday.

-I don't want to be absent from my family for two Thanksgivings in a row.

-My dirty little secret is that I kind of like watching football on TV. I see a lot more than I do in person, but of course miss out on the atmosphere. This is one of the CU games that should be televised here.

Wish this thing was in Boulder.

    thoughts?

It sounds like to me you're looking for more excuses not to go, than to go...I don't know when the last time you were in Lincoln was, but I can tell you things havent really changed there from your description - I went in 2006 and Memorial Stadium was still a "Soviet Era inspired chunk of concrete" and my tix from CU were in row 63 of the south endzone....

How could you tell which way was south in that place? No topography, the gray drizzle prevented me from spotting the sun.

When I got to the line about "Thanksgiving and Family" I think I suddenly resigned myself to not going. It was an honest dilemma when I started the thread.

I'd go if I had the resources. It's a cool atmosphere, and possibly the last time we'll ever play 'em.

Been there, done that. No need to repeat the experience. Nothing to see. Move along.

Get the reel and turkey with the fam. Lincoln really is an unchanged armpit of a city that smells like cow dung and broken dreams

    Pass ....

get the fishing gear and use the money you save on a trip to Oregon or Washington in 2012 when you get back and catch a game and get in a fishing trip at the same time.

Wouldn't you rather visit Boulder than Lincoln?? Granted, the home slate isn't great this year (sans UGA), but just being in Folsom should rejuvenate your fanhood...

If it were me, I'd use the $1100 on something else. You can watch the game that decides the b12 norte on tv.

I'd go again but only if I knew for sure CU would win. Love to see the look on their faces after a loss.

Yeah, like Hawaii in 2011. CU at the Punchbowl!

Wally- I know you said you'd be in Afghanistan, but isn't Hawaii a compromise you could make with your CO? It's not like the Islands are smack in the middle of the continent.

It seems pretty reasonable to me. In fact, I don't see why I shouldn't spend the whole year there.

I guess I'm on my own here. I've been campaigning this road trip hard for the past month and I've recruited 16 of my Boulder buddies to join me. I have a friend in the ticket office so I've already reserved 16 tickets even though kNU hasn't released our tickets yet. I wouldn't miss this trip for the world, I even talked the family into having Thanksgiving at noon so I can hit the road by 3:00. This is the last game of a great rivalry and the end of an amazing tradition! I have so many incredible memories of the day after Thanksgiving, top of the list is the looks on all those fuskers faces after crushing their hopes and dreams in what we all like to call 62 - 36. I just can't miss one last chance to once again see that hopeless look on all of their obese faces as the clock ticks down towards a CU victory and the last of our Big XII games (not counting our Big XII Championship Game appearance of course). Just the possibility is too sweet an opportunity to let pass! We will be raising our glasses to victory in some podunk dive bar in Stinkin' Lincoln, and all those red-clad f#cktards will have to listen to us sing the fight song all night long. Glory Glory Colorado bitches!!!!

That'd sound much nicer if Dan Hawkins wasn't our coach.

    Wally:

You have a Jewel of a wife there! I am lucky enough to have one too.

Don't listen to some of the downers here when it comes to this game. It's going to be a big one and a show for the fans. Go to the game!

It's the last NU - CU game at least for a very long time and it will be a good trip for you and your better half.

If you make the right decision and go to the game, perhaps we can meet up for some food and drink. The looser pays, how about that for a deal? I'll enjoy my food and drink either way.

    Good Luck in the 12-Pac!

I think you should go. This will be an end of an era game and I think both schools will commemorate the occasion with something special.

Its what CU gave me when I purchased - I was still a student in 2006 - I was mostly surprised to see that when I got to my seat in the stadium, that there was another 30+ rows behind me there...

I can think of about a thousand things I'd rather do than spend the day after Thanksgiving in stincoln. I've done it before. The place blows. Seriously - the wind never stops blowing. The weather is awful. The scenery is, well, not very scenic.

Save the money. Do something cool.

It'll be on TV. I plan on going to the game, however. Then never set foot in the state the rest of my life.

I'd rather sandpaper a bobcat's ass in a phone booth than spend any time in that jerkwater 'burg.

The ironic thing about this particular post is the fact that I'll be in Egypt the day this game is being played.

Enjoy the **** out of that my man. And get through Cairo as fast as humanly possible. Luxor & Aswan = Win. Cairo = Polluted dump.

Also memorize this word: La'a. (can be pronounced La). Means no. You will say this word more than you can imagine.
