He is talking about how he was in the building when CU was interviewed and he met McCartney in the hallway...

After hearing that story I can only say --- if McCartney gets interviewed for the job --- it is going to be his.

Woellk also said that he thinks it's time for Colorado to hire a African American coach.

What the hell does race or color have to do with coaching football?

I think it's high time the Daily Camera hires an african-american to be the mouthpiece for the CU AD.

Woelk was telling the story of when Mac was interviewed in 1981. Neil was waiting outside the interview room and after 15 minutes of Mac telling Neil what he would do as HC, Neil was convinced Mac was the man and would be great.

And when he got back to the editor and told the editor that CU had to hire that McCartney guy, the editor asked him what Mac said and Neil opened his notebook--- and had nothing. he was so entranced with Mac speaking that he forgot to write anything down.

Not much. Except that if African Americans are underrepresented as college head coaches then there is a largely untapped pool of talented candidates that any school should consider.

    Very disappointing.

Bohn may be digging his own grave. If he were to hire Mac and it didn't work out, Bohn might be forgiven and survive. If he hires someone else and it doesn't work out (with everyone knowing he could have hired Mac) he is gone.

Hopefully this is just part of the Bohn disinformation campaign that everyone here likes to write about.

P.S. Why would he give Vic any real information knowing Vic bashes CU every chance he gets?

You didn't listen to the interview apparently. He was actually pretty good on the radio today and he actually had thinks Mac should be a serious candidate.

I would be shocked if Mac does not get a serious interview.

i'm not in favor of an automatic McCartney hire, but i think you have to have him in the picture. for something. this AD/football program has one wheel in the ditch. like my uncle (longtime HS football coach in TX, and OK) says.....it's a lot easier to go from 6 wins to 3 wins than 6 wins to 9 wins. you need guys who can do the latter.

Not to mention the perception that Boulder is an extremely unfriendly place for anyone of a race other than Caucasian to live in. You help to break that perception by appointing an African American head coach. Definitely shouldn't be a major factor, but it can't be ignored either.

Thank you for providing the clarification. I was late to a meeting because I was listening to the interview, and I typed a bunch of crap that made no sense.

Yes, I thought that was pretty good, too!

That's because Bohn's "A," "B," and "C" guys are people like Les Miles, John Gruden, Bill Cowher, etc. Pie in the sky - but you have to admire him for at least giving it a shot. At the end of the day, I think someone in the "D," "E," or "F" category is more likely.

I thought Woelk actually made some good points and provided some good clarification on his article today. He wasn't saying that CU SHOULDN'T hire from within the CU family. He was saying CU didn't HAVE TO hire from within the CU family. He wants CU to perform an intensive, exhaustive search for their next head coach. He wants CU to turn over every rock and find out who is really interested in the job, and find out who is really the best fit for the job. If, at the end of the day, that person is Bill McCartney, or Eric Bienemy, or Jon Embree - or Troy Calhoun, or Les Miles, or Jim McElwain, etc. - then that's the person Woelk thinks CU should hire.

Woelk also had a GREAT point about this hire being so very important based on the perfect storm of timing that is brewing. If the NFL does have their lockout next season, the spotlight is going to be shining much brighter on the Buffs. That is a big deal in trying to lure new eyes to the Buffs program. In order to do that, though, they have to be able to generate some real excitement behind the program.

Exactly. I actually have to give Woelk some props. He had a very good argument... why shouldn't CU make sure they have done their due diligence?
