MacIntyre could add more players to the 2015 class

I recently asked MacIntyre what he planned to do with those remaining scholarships and he told me he and his staff are continuing to talk with potential additions to the class and said adding a transfer is always a possibility.

We all know about Devin Lucien (and Ringo talked about him a lot in this column), but who are some other unsigned guys (HS or JUCO) and transfers that are available?

What position depth chart do you think could use the biggest shot in the arm?

If you were HCMM, would you be more interested in freshmen or veterans? (Personally, I'd look at grad transfers in order to get the on-field bump in 2015 while also getting my class numbers higher for 2016 signing day.)

With the limited size of the 2016 class, I'd bank the scholarships unless a true impact player falls into our lap. Stalzer effect.

If there is a kick ass linebacker, bring him in. We need help in most areas so I'd take what we could get. Needs to be a difference maker type and that doesn't necessarily mean stats.

Grad transfer preferred. I also think we should put Moeller on scholarship, kid has earned it imo.

MacIntyre doesn't have the luxury of banking scholarships. Grad transfer imo

Just saw that USC blueshirted 2 kids, 3* WR Deontay Burnett and 4* OL Clayton Johnston. Looks like Burnett committed knowing it was a blueshirt offer, but it sounds like USC kinda forced Johnston to do it, maybe he gets a little mad this summer at the thought of paying tuition to take some classes at USC this year.

Yeah I agree with that. And find a bball player with a year remaining of eligibility to come play tight end.

That would be huge. How in the hell do you find so much talent you have to blue shirt a four star.

Nathan Mitogo is a JUCO I think the Buffs may target. 6'4" 230 lbs and runs a 4.6 forty as a weakside DE. Pass rush specialist who could be a terror in the new scheme.

Was committed to Central Michigan & Tumpkin, but de-committed. Also had an offer from Utah. Colorado showed interest before, but never offered. hudl

A TE grad transfer would be great.

I'm having trouble following this. Not you, but when others say they would rather bank a scholarship than bring in a grad transfer. The grad transfer is a senior. It's the same as banking the scholarship... except that you get an experienced guy added to your depth for the coming season.

I'd never bank a scholarship if I could avoid it.

Worst case is I find no one to bring in so I put one of my walk ons on a 1-year scholarship so that I can both reward them and count their GPA into my APR numbers.

Lucien would be my first hope. Then go after a one year rental at LB or TE. Preferably both

Agree that he has earned it.

Also could go a long ways towards building good will with Colorado HS coaches and give us more credibility in the future telling Colorado kids that they can come to CU as a PWO and have a fair shot at earning a schollie.

Also agree with the Grad Transfer idea but how many of those guys are out there who could actually help us?

Considering our kicking situation might be worth looking for a kicker who could help on a short term basis.

I haven't read the article but how many spots do we have?

I don't think anybody is saying that, exactly. My opinion is that we should avoid bringing in a guy just to be a warm body. A grad transfer wouldn't just be a warm body. If we can get an impact player, bring him in. Otherwise, I think we are better served increasing the size (and options) of the 2016 class.

The scholarship count would remain the same for the 2016 with our without a grad transfer being brought in assuming he has one year remaining.

yes. I know that. Im not talking about avoiding a grad transfer in favor of banking a scholarship.

Duff's mentioned it in the past, but do you look at possibly bringing in a QB to be an upgraded insurance policy in case Sefo gets hurt and possibly even push Sefo for the starting gig? Also curious whatever happened to Brandon Snell, JUCO WR who at one point was committed to Utah, but I don't think he actually ended up there.

And encourage future walk ons by showing it is possible/probable that they will eventually earn a scholarship if they stick it out.

The coaches are higher on Gehrke than we fans seem to be.

Besides, I think it would be hard to find a grad transfer at QB unless it was for the QB1 job.

I don't want us to use the scholarship on a guy who is just going to be a warm body taking up space for the next 4 years. I also don't want a grad transfer for one year if he is going to do the same.

There is the kid coming out of UCLA and a couple others have been mentioned but I'm still waiting to see this giant pool of grad transfer talent lining up to spend a year playing for CU.

There are a few of those guys and we should pursue them, there are also a few JC kids who qualify late that may help. I also like the idea of taking a kid who got pushed out of a place like USC or one of the top SEC schools if he truly could help us.

The probability of each of those options though is a lot smaller than I think some want to recognize. Don't take a guy just to take a guy. Short of finding somebody who truly will help us I'd go with Daaah's suggestion. Reward a walk on for his hard work with one year of scholarship. His parents would appreciate it, the team would see that hard work is rewarded, and future walk-on candidates would have an example to buy into.

I think the coaches are willing to go with what we have at QB for 2015, but I think the possibility of an upperclassman QB in the 2016 class will need to be addressed sooner rather than later. The jobs of the coaching staff may depend on it.

Even if it's a transfer who sits out 2016 and is ready to compete with Apsay, Montez and the 2016 frosh signee in the spring & fall camps of 2017.

Depends who it is. PRich was a guy we signed late, that worked out well for us and him. If you can get a guy who will make your team better immediately, you try and get that guy.

Like Tini asked, does anyone actually know how many spots are available? Ringo never mentions how many, he just refers to them in the plural. Could we possibly be looking at a few more signings?

Agree with most everyone else, though. A grad transfer that would be expected to start in 2015 would be the preferable route.

And that would assume no attrition at the position and linear development from Apsay, Montez, and the 2016 signee. Seems unlikely it will play out that well for us.
