Mike Krzyzewski - almost fired, crazy that he got hired

Duke wasn't a power when he started though and didn't have the pedigree, right? 9-17 off of Army. Eeek. Reminds me of auburn hiring Chizik after going 2-10 at Iowa state.

Right. Duke had had some nice teams here and there, but Duke was not "Duke". Not even close.

What were his fourth and five seasons like?

Even duke is adapting to the one and dones of UK. They are able to land top tier guys.

Have the days of becoming a blue blood vanished? In CFB no team that hasn't won a MNC has won the title since 96 or so. Will we ever see a team like Witchita St win it all?

yrs 4 and 5 were NCAA Tournament appearances and 6 was a 37 win season and NCAA Runner-up

Yeah ... didn't Duke play for the national championship in '78 (lost to Kentucky)?

Yep, what I'm really getting at is Carolina was boss by the time Krzyzewski took the helm at Duke and was a winning national title and coming close in other years while Duke struggled early under K. Duke had some really good teams in periods of the 60s and late 70s.
