This week, the Colorado Buffaloes carried a 20-point lead into the fourth quarter and treated it with respect...In Brian Cabral's debut as interim head coach, the Buffs snapped a five-game losing streak, won for the first time in Big 12 Conference play this season (1-5, 4-6 overall) and kept their postseason hope flickering. "How 'bout them Buffaloes?" an emotional Cabral, wearing a purple lei given to him by "a very dear friend," bellowed upon entering a very different postgame press conference.
Nebraska week hasn`t even arrived yet in Boulder but the Cornhuskers` primary color once again is banned from the premises as interim coach Brian Cabral continues to makeover the Buffs and put his stamp on the program, to the extent he can, in the final three weeks of the season.Cabral chose to tweak the pregame routine and bring back a few old traditions prior to a victory over Iowa State at Folsom Field on Saturday. The Buffs skipped the Buffalo Roundup...The Buffalo Heartbeat made its return. The entire team gathers in the Dal Ward auditorium in the moments before the game and claps and pounds on walls and chairs creating what sounds like a heartbeat from the outside.
The team seemed to respond well to Cabral`s vision with its first win in six weeks, breaking a five-game losing streak. "It`s new life around here," said Jashon Sykes, a former linebacker in the program and current coordinator of player relations. "You probably can`t sense it, but guys are excited, which they were always positive and always prideful about playing, but it`s just something different.

They broke the huddle with "ONE HEARTBEAT!"They had heard that message all week from Cabral..."He pretty much told us about the traditions that we've been missing and what all the great Buffaloes did, and we want to follow in their footsteps," wide receiver Toney Clemons said. "He felt that we had to bring it back and that's what we did.
"I think it united us. It made us more focused and it made us play in honor of those guys that put this great program on the map." Tailback Rodney Stewart became the first CU player to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in a season since Bobby Purify in 2004. Stewart was the workhorse for the Buffs running 36 times for 123 yards.
The Colorado defense allowed 28 of Kansas' 35 fourth-quarter points last week, but redeemed itself against the Cyclones.... fourth quarter play...linebacker Michael Sipili scooped up the recovery and ran 45 yards for a touchdown. "All I remember was seeing the end zone and I had to get there," Sipili said.

Kansas State (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) comes off a 38-28 loss at Missouri and has won only one of its last four games. Who's hot: Sophomore quarterback Colin Klein. He ran for 127 yards against Texas and for 141 yards on 18 carries Saturday at Missouri. Klein and senior Carson Coffman rotate at QB. Who's not: The Wildcats' rushing defense. It ranks last among Big 12 teams, yielding 220 yards per game. Missouri netted 232 yards on 38 carries against Kansas State.
